Sonja was born in Austria to Anna Rosenauer on April 12th, 1949.
She came to America in 1959 when she was 9 years old, speaking only German. She attended the University of Arizona where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree. She later received another bachelors degree from the University of Maryland. She met the love of her life, Dale, working as a waitress in a German restaurant in San Diego. They were married on May 28th, 1977. She followed Dale and his job to Boston, St Louis, Arizona, Germany, and Washington DC, where they spent almost 30 years and raised four amazing children. She always loved the southwest and convinced Dale to move back to Arizona after he retired. Always an adventurer and traveler at heart, she embraced the opportunity to explore new
places.
She worked as a teacher, first for her own children, some of whom she homeschooled for a period of time, and later for Saint Mark’s and Holy Redeemer. She never stopped learning and teaching, and sharing her love of grammar with her grandchildren (whether they wanted her to or not).
Sonja is survived by her husband, Dale, her daughter, Andrea (Daryn), her son, Samuel, son, Zach (Crystal), son, Alex (Daniela) and her grandchildren, Hendrix, Dexter, Logan, Amelia, Phoenix, Max, and Valentino.
