On Saturday, May 18th, we lost a strong, proud, loving father, Florentino Armas. He passed away and went into the heavens near his home in North Las Vegas. Florentino Serna Armas was born in La Palma, Huanuzco, Zacatecas, Mexico, to Bartolo Armas and Maria del Carmen Serna. He had a sister born before him who passed away when she was an infant. As an infant, his mother, Carmen, would pass as well. As a child and a teenager, Florentino lived with his grandparents, Fernando and Ramona. His dad Bartolo would remarry and add many brothers and sisters: Jesus, Josefina, Luis, Ricardo, Salvador, Jose(Chepo), Lucita, and Eva. While growing up, he enjoyed hanging around with his brother, sisters, and cousins. In the mid-60s, when he decided to move to the United States. During the late 60s and early 70s, he lived in various areas of Orange County and had multiple jobs to maintain himself. During this period, he would buy a car that he would always cherish, a beautiful red convertible 1968 Pontiac Firebird, which he had owned for many years.
On New Year’s Eve 1975, Florentino met the love of his life, Miss Gloria Munoz, bringing in the New Year with a kiss. They would marry on November 12th, 1976. By this point, he was working as a machine operator for Pomona Textile and would eventually move to the city of La Verne to begin raising his family. Florentino was a very hardworking man who rarely took vacations, worked as much overtime as possible, and for many years worked two jobs to provide for his growing family. He and Gloria would have 5 boys: Alberto, Jose, Jildardo, Faustino, and Armando. In between helping to raise the boys, our father would enjoy visiting the horse tracks for horse racing, watching TV to see his favorite sport of baseball, playing card games, or reading his favorite newspaper, La Opinion. When he became a grandfather, he continued his role as a provider, helping to raise his grandchildren: Roberto, Xavier, Moses, Ashley, Michael, Santos, and Jose Jr. Years later, more grandchildren were added: Azariah, Trinity, and Sofia as well as a great-grandchild, Naomi. All his grandchildren gave him so much joy and happiness.
Papa Tino and Momma Gloria enjoyed traveling together. They would take trips to his properties in the small town of La Rumorosa, where they would spend many weekends enjoying the beautiful scenery. They also enjoyed their time together, visiting various casinos and spending hours playing the slots. A few years ago, his son Armando moved Florentino and his wife Gloria to North Las Vegas, buying a house to live out their years. They all resided there until their untimely passing. He would be cared for by his sons, daughter-in-law Angie, and buddy Melissa until he passed away. Florentino was also a very good son, grateful grandson, and loyal brother. He would later become a loving husband, wonderful father, and very caring grandfather. Florentino was a generous, honest, hardworking, big-hearted man. He was a person you could count on for those who knew him.
