

Retired MSgt. Garfield M. Osckel, U.S. Air Force (ret.), a decorated veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, born in Walsenburg, Colo., and a long-time Las Vegas resident, passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, of natural causes, he was 85. Garfield and his family moved to Las Vegas in 1975 after his 27-year career in the Air Force, he became a postal delivery man for the U.S. Postal Service in Las Vegas until 1991. He was the eldest of eight children of Silvano and Emma Osckel. Garfield is survived by his loving wife, of 58 years, Armandina Flores Osckel and their three children, Sylvia Osckel Bush, her husband, Michael D. Bush, Michael R. Osckel, and Edward C. Osckel, and his wife, Tonya. He and Armandina have nine grandchildren, Christopher, Eric, and Michelle Bush, Mika Garcia, Izzalette Ruiz-Coranza, and James Osckel, Bryan, Alec and Garret Osckel; three great-grandchildren, Abilgail and Hayden Bush and Evalette Coranza. He is also survived by his sister, Emilia Luvella Atencio. Garfield is "Our Hero" and will be sorely missed. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, with Rosary 3-4 p.m., in the chapel, both at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Funeral services will be at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd. Boulder City. Donations should be made to Wounded Warriors Charity, in lieu of flowers.
