George Henry Harrison Sr.

There are some men whose presence fills a room before they ever say a word. And when they finally do, the whole world leans in to listen. That was George Henry Harrison Sr.

Born on July 14, 1948, in Monroe, Louisiana, George lived a complete and authentic 77 years before passing peacefully from this life. He attended the University of Washington, in Seattle, Washington. where he received his BA degree and pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. This is where he met the love of his life, Helen Harrison. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Scott and Velma Harrison, his dear sister Velma Lee Harrison, and his cherished nephew Derrick Harrison.

His legacy continues through those who loved him deeply:

His devoted wife Helen Harrison; his daughter Della Harrison; his son George Harrison Jr. and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Harrison; his precious grandchildren Sienna and Matisse Harrison; his sister Brenda Johnson. Along with a host of beloved family and friends.

George Harrison, a man whose quiet strength and profound wisdom left an indelible mark on all who knew him, passed away after a life dedicated to service, family, and community. He was a pillar of the community, a loving husband, devoted father, and a true friend whose presence was, in itself, a light.

What truly set George apart was his strength and genuine nature. He was a “what you see is what you get” kind of man—the kind who would give you the shirt off his back without needing a thank you. He never chased the spotlight; his genuine presence was enough to illuminate any room. Known for his concise and impactful way with words, George was a man who could say more in five words than most folks could say in five books. He didn't do small talk, but when he spoke, you received a front-row seat to real, old-school, front-porch, soul-deep wisdom.

George was immensely active in the community. He generously opened his home to countless friends and family, and through his connections, he helped facilitate work opportunities for many gaming professionals in the community. Despite his demanding activities, he always found time to be a hands-on father, actively participating in his children's school events and coaching their teams.

Later in life, driven by a deep calling to give back, George dedicated himself to ministry. He became a deacon and founded his own ministry for the sick and shut in, extending his care and compassion to those most in need. His commitment to brotherhood was also foundational, and he was proud to be a Founding Charter Member of the undergraduate Alpha Phi Alpha Sigma Psi Chapter at UNLV.

George's life was a testament to his enduring partnership with his beloved wife, Helen Harrison. Behind this great man stood Helen, the dancer, the wit, and the walking roast master who could out-joke half the family and still look flawless doing it. Together, they built a partnership rooted in laughter, unwavering loyalty, and legendary hospitality. Their home was not just a house but a haven—a place open to anyone who needed love, wisdom, or a hot meal. They had a singular knack for raising other people’s kids right alongside their own, instilling in all of them intelligence, grace, and a good dose of humor.

George Harrison’s legacy is one of humble leadership, selfless generosity, and enduring love. His wisdom will be missed, but his light will continue to shine brightly through the countless lives he touched.

May we all live a little more truthfully, laugh a little louder, and love a little deeper, the way George Harrison Sr. taught us, just by being who he was.
