Hugh A. Caton, age 87, was born March 19, 1933 to Hugh and Louise (Zeller) Caton at Belle Fourche, SD. He passed away at home with family at his side on August 27, 2020. He attended Newell High School and the University of South Dakota in Vermillion graduating with a bachelor's degree from the School of Business Administration in June 1955. He married Marlene Palmer on June 15, 1956. They lived in Rapid City, SD where he worked for Commercial Credit and then Rushmore State Bank where he attained the position of Executive Vice President.
During this time, Hugh and Marlene had four children, Hugh Bradley, Christine Ellen, Catherine Louise and Patrick Michael.
In 1970, Hugh accepted a position as President of First National Bank of Pinedale in Pinedale, Wyoming so the family moved there and made a life. He retired from banking in 1996. When he retired, Hugh and his lifelong partner, Marlene traveled throughout the west, looking for a place to settle for the rest of their lives. They decided on Las Vegas, NV in 1997 and there they stayed.
Hugh was an avid golfer and was a part of the BPOE (Elks) when they purchased the Valley Hi Country Club with a golf course and swimming pool. But Pinedale didn't have a golf course. Fortunately, he wasn't the only one there who liked to golf so, joining in with other avid golfers, he was instrumental in establishing Rendezvous Meadows in Pinedale, Wyoming.
He was a member of the BPOE (Elks), American Bankers Association and served as secretary for the Wyoming Republican Party. He represented Rushmore State Bank for Securing the 2000th loan through the Small Business Administration.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marlene and two sons, Hugh (Brad) and Patrick. He is survived by his sisters, LouAnn Heroff of Pullman, WA and Clara Mae (David) Hlavinka of Custer, SD, brother, Roger Caton of Castroville, CA, sister-in-law, Pam Taylor of Dana Point, CA, two daughters, Christine (Dean) Butterfield of Cheyenne, WY and Catherine (Chuck) Rees of Evanston, WY, grandchildren, Morgan (Mike) Evett, Bailey Caton (Kyle) and Brindy (Jade) Russell, great grandchildren, Madison and Makenzie Evett and Stella and Julian Bailey, niece and nephews Jennifer Kirk, Andrew, Paul and Samuel Friel and TL and Lance Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice (https://www.nah.org/get-involvedimake-a-donation) or Kicken'Cancer in Sublette County (www.kickincancer.org). The address for cards and letters is Christy and Cathy, PO Box 321, Cheyenne, WY 82003.
