

Ikpe Umo Elijah Ekpoudia, MD, 65, dedicated neonatologist in this Valley for over 25 years, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012. He was born October 1, 1946 in Ikot Ebiere, Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria. His journey to the US began at age 18 after earning a full scholarship to Tuskegee University and he continued this standard of academic excellence at University of Alabama at Birmingham where he earned his medical degree. He upheld high standards throughout his career and life. He is survived by his sons, Neal Kwame Ekpoudia and Kokoette Ekpoudia; and daughters, Iboro Ekpoudia and Ekaette Ekpoudia, all of Las Vegas; brothers, Inyang Ekpoudia, Anthony Ekpoudia and Eno Ekpoudia; sister, Alberta Ekpoudia; former wife, Marietta Nelson of Las Vegas; former wife, Emelda Ekpoudia; his niece, Nsuk Usen; nephews, Anietie Ukpong and Iniubong Usen; his brother, Isaac Usen and his wife, Mmayen Usen, both of Calabar, Nigeria; and his cousin, Udo Maxwell Ekpoudia. Visitation will be 1:00pm - 5:00pm, Saturday, July 28. Services will be at 1:00pm, Sunday, July 29, both at Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas. Burial to follow at Palm Memorial Park-Northwest, 6701 N. Jones Boulevard.
