Four little words have stuck in my mind
From the time I was just a small child

When he talked of the men he admired

I remember those men he talked about 
Sure â€˜nuff engineers and contractors, tough, but kind
They said what they meant and meant what they said
These men are getting' harder to find

â€œThere's a good feller,â€ meant he was true to his word
That's all you expect of a man
You knew for sure he was proud to meet you
By the genuine shake of his hand

On this man no matter the task
Never got too tough, too cold, or too late
For his help, all you need do is ask

Be it with a slide rule or transit or crew
He spent most of his life learning this engineering trade
And he'd be honored to teach it to you

What ain't on a true and honest track
He knows it's easier to keep a good reputation
Than it is to try to build one back

He helped write engineering's unwritten laws
He won't ask you to do what he wouldn't do
Yet knows, at times, the short end you'll draw

He can still hold his head way up high

He knows with faith and God's help he'll get by

And their meaning won't run all that deep
But when Dad would use â€˜em to describe certain men
You knew they were at the top of the heap

But they've always been favorites of mine
The trail has ended for Jim, so when his name is brought up
â€œThere's a good feller,â€ describes him just fine.

Your nephews and nieces

Jimmy and I couldn't have been much closer throughout high school; plus, he had a car and I didn't! Despite our friendship, I always regretted how quickly we went our separate ways through college and on to our chosen careers. It was great to again see him at our 50th reunion, and we all missed him at our 60th. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to fly into Vegas and join John Boykin in late February for an all-day visit with Jimmy and, for me, to meet Barbara. Fragile though he was, we had a great visit -- lots of laughs, tall tales and the recall of many pleasant memories of our days at Jesuit.
I'll always remember No. 41's cleats climbing up my back when I blew a block, and what advice he then gave me. God speed, Jimmy, and as we say in the Navy -- Fair winds and following seas! John Wolcott

Jimmy you were a great friend and cohort. Thank you for all of the great times we had together in high school and as teammates and roommates in college. I will always remember you and how you brightened my life. 
You supported me all the way and became my best man at my wedding. You were a great friend to me and Beverley and many others. GOD BLESS YOU. John Boykin
