

Jean Bringhurst Anderson was born March 12 1943, in Salt Lake City to Royce “S” and Pearl Davidson Bringhurst. At the time of her birth, her father was away serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps and did not return until she was two years old. Jean was the oldest of six children and assumed many responsibilities for the care her younger siblings: Florence, Marla, Ann, John and Margaret. She graduated in 1961 from Davis Senior High School, Davis, California, and graduated from Utah State University in 1965 with a credential in elementary education. She married in 1965 and eventually relocated to Las Vegas in the early 1970s. Jean is survived by her five children: Gina Anderson Nelson (Bryan), Scott Bruce Anderson, Renee Anderson Mead (Sven), Jonathan William Anderson (Brandee), Christopher Royce Anderson (Michelle). She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, and all her siblings. Jean trained and worked as an interior designer for several years, but returned to teaching in 1989. She attained her Masters degree in 1996. A long-time educator, she was awarded a special Congressional Award and the Mayors' Certificate of Recognition for teaching, both in 2004. Jean retired from teaching in 2012. Throughout the years, she used her teaching skills to impart wisdom and knowledge to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader, and taught all her younger siblings to read. An accomplished quilter and seamstress, she left behind a vast legacy of heirlooms. She enjoyed singing and attending musical productions. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities, including Stake Relief Society President. She will be greatly missed by the many dear friends who shared her common interests. She passed away peacefully and happily at her home on December 28, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 9825 West Desert Inn Road, Las Vegas. Viewing will precede the funeral at 1 pm. A luncheon for close family and friends will follow the services. Burial will be Saturday at 9 am at Palm Cemetery, 6701 North Jones Boulevard, Las Vegas.
