

Haney was born on April 24, 1969 in Philadelphia, PA. Jeff graduated from Lansdale Catholic High School, in Lansdale, PA, and from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia with a degree in English. He had a long and venerable career as a journalist working for newspapers in Pennsylvania, California and Nevada, most notably as an award-winning columnist at the Las Vegas Sun.
At the time of his death, he was working as Executive Vice President of Operations for Fierro Communications, Inc. He was well respected for developing and directing all media, marketing, research, consulting, and public relations strategies for Fierro’s clients.
His childhood love for sports fueled his lifelong interest in sports betting, casino games and gambling analytics. Haney was also the author of a highly acclaimed book on the Las Vegas sports and gaming scene, “Bettors, Boxers, Wiseguys, and Wannabes.” He loved the idea of the American West and the solitude of the desert, where he hiked often with his children. The soundtrack of his life was the Grateful Dead, and he was an avid reader of everything from the Beat Generation authors to crime nonfiction.
He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, from complications due to melanoma.
He is survived by his mother, Eileen McSherry of Flourtown, PA. He is also survived by his children, Jackson Haney and Cassidy Haney of Las Vegas. He is also survived by his brother, Matthew Haney and his wife Lauren of Lawrenceville, NJ; his sister, Michele Halfpenny and her husband Brian of North Wales, PA; his nieces and nephews, Megan, Caroline, Brynne, Gavin, and Cailin; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his former wife, Erin Neff, of Portland OR. He was preceded in death by his father Richard Haney, and survived by Richard’s wife, Roseann Haney
A memorial service for Jeffrey will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Palm Mortuary - Cheyenne, 7400 West Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89129.
