John Andrew Kitt, age 75, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025. Born on May 15, 1949, in Washington, D.C., John lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind a lifetime of stories that his family will cherish forever.
John grew up with a deep appreciation for learning and hard work. He graduated from Salpointe Catholic High School in 1968, continued his education at Arizona Western College, and earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Northern Arizona University. He spent over 30 years at Bechtel Corporation, where he worked on projects across the U.S. and internationally, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
But John was so much more than his career. He was a man of practicality, the kind of person who could look at any problem and find the most no-nonsense solution. He believed in fate, that things happened the way they were meant to, trusting in the path laid before him. He was a lover of food–foods so spicy they would bring others to tears, but to him, it was just the right amount of flavor. And if there was a lemon dessert on the menu, you could bet he’d order it.
John found joy in volunteering his time at Christmas in April, Habitat for Humanity, and AARP, spending time camping and hunting with his brothers and friends, and tending to his garden, as well as his stamp and coin collections with the same meticulousness he applied to everything in life. He also loved traveling and experiencing different cultures.
In childhood, John and his siblings never needed a map to find adventure–it always had a way of finding them. They stumbled into moments that turned into the best stories, the kind that would be retold for years to come.
John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He valued time spent with his family and was happiest surrounded by the people he loved most.
He will be remembered for his kind eyes, endearing smile, dedication, work ethic, and his presence that was calm, quiet, and grounding. As well as his unwavering loyalty to his family, friends, and Rowlfie, his dog.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Kitt; his mother, Lucille Kitt; and his brother, William F. Kitt.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Thomascena G. Kitt and his daughters and their families:
Raina K. Green and son-in-law Jason Green: Dahlia Green
Morgan K. Quenet and son-in-law Cyril Quenet: Bobbi Rose Quenet, Kit Axel Quenet
His siblings and their spouses: James & Marcella Kitt, Donald & Dorothy Kitt, Renee & Earl Shivers, and Anthony & Rea Kitt
He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John’s absence leaves a sadness and an ache in the hearts of those who loved him, but his presence will always be felt through reminders of his love and how lucky we were to have known him.
He will be deeply missed.
