
John is survived by his wife of 47 years Linda Leavitt; his children: Nicole (Michael) Stewart, Rebecca (Brian) Burrows, Michael (Emily) Leavitt, David (Becca) Leavitt, LeAnne (Chad) Schmidt and 16 grandchildren.
John was born on September 20, 1945 in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Earl and Mishie Leavitt. He spent most of his childhood on the old Stewart Ranch in Las Vegas with his 2 sisters and 3 brothers along with many cousins who were his best friends. From an early age, John loved being surrounded by his close-knit family.
John proudly served his country after being drafted in the Vietnam War from December of 1965 to October of 1967. He was a proud veteran who passed the love of his country to all who knew him.
John married the love of his life, Linda, on June 8, 1972 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in October of 1973 in the Oakland, California Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints temple.
John spent the majority of his adult life in the construction industry in Las Vegas. Most notably, he was the owner of John’s Trucking, Inc. for over 25 years where he helped build the Las Vegas Valley.
In his later years, John loved to spend time woodworking in his garage where he would create many beautiful items he liked to share with family and friends. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren who he loved very much. His family and friends will always remember him as a caring and loving man with a smile always on his face.
A funeral is scheduled for John on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel at 6051 Dorrell Lane in Las Vegas, Nevada. The viewing will begin at 10:00 am followed by the service at 11:00am. Burial will occur at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial in Boulder City, Nevada.
