John was a motivated man that believed you could accomplish almost anything with hard work and dedication. John loved cars and started his career early as a Go-Kart mechanic. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to open his own business, Rose Muffler and Auto Clinic in Pomona, California. Through his hard work and by “doing it right the first time” he was able to grow his business to the point where he was able to semi-retire in his mid-forties when he moved to Sedona, Arizona.
In Sedona, he and his wife Darlyne built a home at the foot of the red rock cliffs where they lived for 20 years before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1997. John was known as the man that could fix anything. If he could not find a part he needed, he simply made it. John continued working on vehicles of all kinds in the shop he build on his property. John also had a private pilot’s license that allowed him to fly his Cessna airplane across the country to see family and friends.
John was a leader and was looked up to by everyone that met him. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially boating with his family and friends. Throughout his life, on any given weekend you might find him on Lake Mead or Lake Powell where he taught his kids and all their friends how to water ski. John and Darlyne both were still enjoying Lake Powell and water skiing at age 75.
Travel and vacations were experiences that John truly enjoyed. He preferred to seek out excitement wherever he went and he was partial to vacations that were casual and laid back with an atmosphere of “live and let live!” John and Darlyne bought a vacation home in Rocky Point, Mexico and made many trips to places like the South Pacific, the Orient, France, Japan, Spain and going on various cruises. Wherever they went, they always tried to include family and friends.
John was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. Two of John’s favorites were Poodles and German Shepherds.
John also enjoyed Smooth Jazz music. He and Darlyne made annual trips to the Catalina Island Jazz Festival for over 10 years and attended many other Smooth Jazz concerts.
