

John F. Sweeney passed away in Las Vegas, Aug. 3, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth; and brother, James. He is survived by his wife, of 47 years, Loretta; five sons, John, Scott, Greg, James and Michael; sister, Anne; and nine grandchildren. John was born Sept. 4, 1932, in Scranton, Pa. He graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University and served in the military during the Korean War. John was a pioneer in the resort and vacation industries and was an active member of the Las Vegas business community. Through his company, Global Resorts, Inc., he worked with hundreds of resort developers and major hotel brands all over the world. He received numerous industry awards and served on various committees with the American Resort Development Association (ARDA) and was a founding member of the National Advisory Board for UNLV's College of Hotel Administration. John was an avid golfer and a devoted family man with many loving friends who will miss him dearly. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas.
