I wake up every morning thinking about her. I hope at the end of this,  you will have an easier time remembering how my grannies love appeared in your life. And with those memories as you continue your journey, you are able to share that love. 

One of my earliest memories of her is sneaking out of my room as a child to climb in bed with her & papa. Fast forward years later to now I’m 34 & she maintained that comfort for me.  My granny saw me. All of the true parts of me and she loved me for all those parts. No matter how weird they were and she would tell me they were weird too.  

Not having her here anymore, I don’t know. It’s hard to accept. So how do you move forward when someone who has been with you all your journey cannot finish it with you? 

How do you move forward? Since Dec. 20th, & I say Dec. 20th because on the 19th, I couldn’t function. But on the 20th my brain started to assist in helping with my hearts pain. The question of how will I move forward evolved to how did SHE move forward?
How did she do 20 years without papa? 
My granni knew loss. From her mom, her siblings, and from the love of her life. How was she able to continuously love & support her family after losing so many loved ones? She survived 20 years of being without her husband. How? GODS LOVE. Through her love and trust in God. 
That is so encouraging for me. It was Gods love that enabled my granni to unconditionally love her family the way she did. 

She showed us how to be there for each other by always being there for us. I never doubted her love. 
She had so much love in her. So much love that even though physically she is no longer with us, she will continue to walk with us as WE continue our journey reminding us to share Gods love.

Granny, you are missed. I’ll never forget the last time we talked and how proud of me you were. I’ll never forget the fish heads in your backyard when I was younger. The helicopter toy that flies when you push a button. And I’ll never forget nor understand the plastic wrap around your couches. Thank you for watching ShaVaughn and I, and giving my dad reasons to smile and laugh. Love you always -Mel

Granny, I’m lost without you!  You have shown me love all my life.  You’ve been there throughout every aspect of my life, to gently guide me, to let me make my own choices, to be my aunt, my friend, and mostly my mother.  You always told me I’m the only one that makes you feel good when you’re feeling down, but you’re also the only one that I turned to when my world was upside down.  I miss your laugh, your smile, and our talks.  This world is so much darker without you but I know you’re being sheltered by our Lord and Savior, I love you!

I will miss you dearly, Ms. Johnnie.  I truly enjoyed working with you at Bailey Middle School.  Your smile was contagious.  I looked forward to our morning hugs when you would come to work.  Every time I hear the song "I Can Only Imagine " I will think of you.   Your soft-spoken voice will be always be remembered for the strength and the courage you showed us.
