Jose H. Gonzales

October 13, 1931 to April 22, 2015

Jose H. Gonzales, age 83 passed away on April 22, 2015 in Las Vegas, NV. Jose is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lupe Gonzales, of Las Vegas, NV and his six children and their Spouses: Debbie and Daniel Munoz, Cynthia and Rich Gracia, Joe and Lydia Gonzales, Patty Mendez, Eleana Gonzales, Bobbie Gonzales, his two brothers: Ted Gonzales and Frank Gonzales. He is preceded in death by his daughter, SaraJean Taylor, two brothers Rudy Gonzales and Lupe Gonzales. Jose has 23 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Jose was born October 13, 1931 in Compton, CA to Delores Huerta and Theodore Gonzales and grew up in Compton, CA where he attended Jordon High School.

Jose entered the Army in 1947 and spent several years in Korea during the Korean War. Upon returning home to California, Jose entered the construction industry as a Heavy Equipment Operator for 36 years until his retirement in 1986. He was an active member in the union and became a dedicated union representative. He was not afraid of hard work, but believed in fair pay and benefits for all his co-workers to enable them to provide housing, food and care for their families.

Jose was a great family man: A loving husband, a loving father, and grandfather. He opened his heart, arms and home to his blended family and friends which reaches across the entire US.

As a devout Christian, he was a member of the Streams of Hope Church, and active in Christian Men’s outreach programs.

In Jose’s younger years he loved playing football, basketball, coaching little league teams, deep sea fishing and diving for abalone off the California coast. He loved his canine companions, Shannon, Danny and Angel.

His friends and family will always remember his faith, his family values and loving heart.

A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, at 11:00 with viewing beginning at 10:ooam at Palm Mortuary , 7400 W Cheyenne Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89129 with a reception directly to follow the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jose Gonzales’s life.
