Coach Capp, It’s hard to put into words just how much you meant to me and the impact you had on my life, both on and off the mat. You weren’t just my coach—you were one of my greatest friends, my toughest critic, and my unwavering supporter. I’m 36 now, married with two amazing boys who both want to wrestle at Sierra Vista, just like I did. I wish more than anything that you could have met them. You helped shape me into the man I am today. From the very first practice, you believed in me and saw something in me I didn’t even see in myself yet. You taught me not only how to wrestle but how to fight for what I wanted in life. Your lessons weren’t just about takedowns and pins—they were about resilience, accountability, and giving everything you had in everything you do. You never let me take the easy way out. When I thought I was at my limit, you showed me I had more to give. You were always tough, but never unfair or unkind, and I respect you so much for that. Even after my final season at Vista, when you went to Bonanza, you never stopped being my coach. You checked in on me and my mom regularly, making sure we were okay, making sure I stayed on track. You had this way of holding me accountable but also making me feel cared for in a way few others could. It meant the world to me, and it still does. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about you. Whether it’s a lesson you taught me in the wrestling room, something you said before a match, or just the way you believed in me—your memory is with me always. I miss you every single day, Coach. My oldest son was born two years after you passed, and my youngest—he’s so much like me it’s scary. I know you’d get a kick out of him. Whatever weight class he ends up in, those kids better watch out. I talk about you often with my boys because I want them to know the kind of man who helped shape their dad. I want them to learn the same lessons you taught me—hard work, respect, integrity, and heart. Thank you Capp I love you

Coach Cap. Miss you buddy. It has been ten years. Cannot even believe it. There were so many more conversations for us to have as adults. You were my teacher and my coach for 3 years at Bonanza. You always had the wrestling team on our toes. Never knowing which pair of shoes you were going to wear. Whenever you wore the blue adidas from your old Sierra Vista days, we knew it was going to be a rough practice. I appreciate the impact you made in your short time with us. You turned the page much sooner than any of us expected. Love you coach.

I am so sorry for your loss.  I was a friend/acquaintance of Joe's when I lived in Las Vegas.

I just discovered his passing last evening.  Since he hadn't responded to my texts or email, and I had found his phone was disconnected, I was trying to locate him online.  I had spoken with him not long before he had become ill, and had last seen him in 2011 when I was back visiting Vegas.

Although I did not know Joe well, I believe he was a great guy, and the world is a lesser place without him in it.  Deepest sympathy to your whole family and community.

Joe & Ginny,  i regret that i did not know your son but am sure that he learned a lot from his dad who has to be one of if not the nicest people i have ever known.  my thoughts are with both of you.  i will see you before spring i hope.

Coach Cap was the best teacher/coach/mentor/friend at Bonanza High School. He inspired so many students including myself. I first met Coach Cap Freshman year in Biology class. Since then I knew I had to take more courses with him because of how great of a teacher he was. This was supposed to be the third year I would have had the privilege of being in his classroom. He was definitely one of a kind and will forever be missed. My sympathies and prayers go out to his loved ones.

Although I only had the opportunity to take a single class with Coach Cap while at Bonanza, I found him to be a fantastic role model and an exceptional youth leader.  He challenged his athletes both physically and mentally to reach their full potential.

Thank you Coach Cap;  you will be missed by all you touched in life.

We are friends  of Jan & Nick Kuncl.  We cannot say how sorry we are for your loss. Our hearts ache for you.   After reading the obituary, he was a wonderful person and son.   He will remain in your hearts forever.  Hugs sent your way.

Joe - what can I say - you will be missed by me, by the students and by everyone that came in contact with you. You were a positive note in a world that has so many sour tones. Thanks for sharing while you could.

When I began teaching at Bonanza in October of last school year, Joe's name was one of the first I heard.  He was a Bonanza celebrity!  It was clear to me that Joe was adored by his students and colleagues.  During the few interactions we had, I observed the qualities that made him so loved.  Joe was dedicated to his students, athletes, and community.  There is definitely a huge hole in the heart of Bonanza.  You are very missed Cap!

I was privileged enough to know Coach Cap for most of my high school career.  Aside from being an excellent teacher and a wonderful coach, he was an inspiring role model that helped me become much of the man that I am today. My niece Aimee Adams was a friend of your son Joe and I just found out thru her that you lost your son. My heart breaks for you. I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that my prayers are with you. Into paradise may the angels lead him.

As an educator, myself, I am always in awe when certain people, like Joe, have an amazing impact on students. I truly attribute my daughter's growth as a student, an athlete, and young adult to mentoring by Joe Cap - her love and aspirations into the field of sports medicine are due to the last four years of course work with Joe and I am confident that his legacy will live on at Bonanza High School.

Even though I only had cap for two years in high school I've learned so much in those two years. He was the most funny, enthusiastic, intelligent teacher I have ever had. He has inspired me and pushed me to do bigger and better things in life. You will always be missed cap.

My son, Seth Hollings, was friends with Joe at Clark High School and always spoke with great admiration for him and his accomplishments. Forward many years later and my granddaughter, Shelby Small attended Sierra Vista High School where Joe was teaching.  She, too, came home speaking highly of this very respected teacher. It was a fun-filled moment when we all realized that Joe had become beloved by three generations of our family. My thoughts, prayers and love to his family and the numerous people who were blessed to have him as a friend.

My daughter, Destiny is a graduate of Bonanza 2012. Destiny said that Coach Cap was the best teacher and role model!  She said, "that all the kids would go to Coach Cap's classroom to be around him! Even though I didn't know him personally, I wrote this to let his family know what a great influence their son had on his many students! My daughter was very impressed by Coach Cap and as a parent of a teenager I am very grateful for role models like your Son!  Blessings & condolences from the Garcia family..

 I coached Joe as a High School student at Clark, and also watched him coach his own football teams. He was an ambitious young man who had many successes in his life. He has left us too soon. My heart felt condolences go out to his parents, family and friends. He will be missed.

     My first memory of Coach Cap was after comming home with a minor sports injury,I asked my son if he had seen Todd, the trainer. He said yes, but being new to Bonanza, I said I thought we needed a second opinion. My son said he had already done that, "Coach Cap looked at it too" My son then proceeded to accurately explain the injury in detail and the healing process. I thought who is this guy, he actually inspired my kids enough that they took Sports Med classes and were excited about it. He mentored and inspired High School students with class and grace teaching them life lessons that they will pass along as parents, health professionals, possibly even as coaches and teachers themselves. He has left a living legacy in the many young lives he touched. Coach, you were taken from us too soon. I am sure you will still be looking out for Bonanza High. Thank you. 
     I hope knowing that so many share this loss and that his memory lives strong will comfort his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your loss.
