Juanita Northington

Juanita Perez Colon Torres Northington better known as Jenny was born on October 22, 1943, and gained her wings on Friday, July 18, 2025. She was the oldest child of the late Dominga Perez and Carmelo Torres, originally, from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

As a young child she relocated with her family to NYC where she was educated at St. Cecilia Boarding School. She loved sewing and fashion leading to her modeling, her passion for crafting including crocheting, knitting, latch hooking, drawing and ceramics.

Nothing was more important to Jenny than her family. She loved cooking and was always ready for a full house. Ma as she was known to her children and to all of their friends, loved to dance, knew all of the hits of the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s, whether it was Spanish music, R & B or Disco (I Will Survive).

In 1968, she met Henry Northington better known as Hank in the Bronx. She was his “Rose from Spanish Harlem” or “Mamacita” and over the years everyone knew who she meant when you heard her calling “Pop”. They resided in Queens until 1998, when they relocated to Las Vegas. Jenny loved her slot machines and listening to the music in the Casinos. She enjoyed her Sunday morning dances with Pop, her Spanish Soap Operas or Telenovelas and in the later years Tik Tok. She even kept Las Vegas’s JC Penny store opened when most others had closed.

Juanita was preceded in death by her Parents: Dominga Perez and Carmelo Torres, her Stepmother: Marcelina and her Sister-in-law: Lana Torres.

Juanita leaves to mourn her loving Husband: Henry Northington, her Brother: Carlos Torres, her 5 Children: Edwin Torres (Amanda), Cynthia (Gary), Milton (Masiko), Jeanette (Pamela) and Henry (Shavonne); 2 Nieces: Keisha and Zenaida (Brian), her Great Niece: Dawn 12 Grandchildren: Alyssa (Sam), Lanita, Reggie, Ajialon, Tanisha, Dasia, Tyquan, Justin, Ayana, Saran, Kosei and Camille; Special Friends of the Family: Belinda (Ralph), Jill and numerous great grands , cousins, friends and loved ones.
