Dr. Judith E. (Judy) Gebhart, age 65, peacefully defeated cancer when she went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2017, surrounded by her loved ones. Beloved daughter of Herbert J. and the late Marjorie M. Gebhart, cherished companion of Dr. John Roberts, adored sister of Kathy (Michael) Trentacoste, Martha Darling, Ann (Chris) Reisig, Maggie Arora, Herb (Bonnie) Gebhart, and Bill Gebhart. Doting aunt of Matthew, Angela (Marcus Abbott), and Emily Trentacoste; the late Victor and the late Ellie Darling; Greg (Janie), Joanie and Tim (Jenny) Rich; Josh, Tony, Crystal and Ashley Reisig; Ashi and Shefali Arora; Natalie and Stephen Pinkerton, and Cassie Gebhart. Devoted great-aunt to Blake and Lilly Rich; Adrienne White; and Parker and Addison Rich. Much loved niece, cousin and friend of many. Simply put, Judy was a force of nature. Amazingly intelligent, she earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Iowa in 1978 and spent her career in positions of increasing responsibility and prominence in the field of research chemistry, retiring from Bechtel in 2009. Along the way, she met many people who became lifelong friends. She was much enjoyed for her sharp wit, her expansive knowledge of many varied topics, her kind and generous nature, and her willingness to always help others in any way she could. Judy had a unique ability to see the best in people and to make each person in her life feel very special, unconditionally loved and appreciated. She was admired for her grace, quiet courage and positive attitude in the face of her diagnosis. A long time resident of the Las Vegas area where she was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Judy’s many interests included volunteer work, hiking, photography, astronomy, travel, reading and quilting. During her illness, she designed and sewed unique quilts for each member of her large family. She explained that the quilts were her way of leaving hugs behind after she was gone. These gifts, along with many wonderful memories of our beautiful Judy, will be forever treasured. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at 10:00 am, at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 6350 N Fort Apache Road, Las Vegas 89149. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church or the Nathan Adelson Hospice Foundation, 4141 Swenson Street, Las Vegas, NV 89119 would be greatly appreciated.
