Kathleen Chapman Everett, 68, a long-time resident of the Las Vegas area, passed away on July 2, 2020 at her home, after a prolonged battle with Advanced Parkinson’s Disease, and eventually Sepsis.

She was born May 19, 1952 in Richmond, CA to Concetta “Connie” Yannone and Mathis Chapman. She found her love and partner of 43 years, John, while attending college at UCLA, and they were later married December 4, 1976. They lived in Suisun and Fairfield, California; El Paso and San Angelo, Texas; and Las Vegas, Nevada throughout the span of their marriage.

Kathleen received a Bachelor of Arts in English and History from UCLA in 1974. Kathleen’s most well-known accomplishment was as a teacher and educator. She was passionate about literature and cultivating, moulding and enriching young minds. She taught in California, as well as most recently at Tom Williams Elementary school in Las Vegas, NV, where she worked until her retirement.

Kathleen was an exceptional mother and wife, always putting her family first. Her children were the center of her world and she blessed them with unparalleled love and innumerable fond memories. She had a bright and energetic personality, a kind and generous heart, a witty sense of humour, and a beautiful spirit. She was fiercely loyal to those that she cared for, and loved her family and friends deeply and unconditionally. She was a devout Catholic, and was a faithful parishioner at St. Francis de Sales, near her home.

Besides spending time with her family and friends, Kathleen had a fervor for reading and music. She had an affinity for The Beatles, Mark Lindsay from Paul Revere and the Raiders, Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits and was an avid collector of their memorabilia.

She is survived by her husband, John; her daughter, Nicole Everett-Crocker and son-in-law Mark Crocker; her son, Matthew Everett; and her grandson, Mark Xavier Crocker, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. Though she never had siblings, she is survived by several best friends of over 50 years, whom she considered her sisters, Shelley Birenbaum of Indio, CA; Marybeth Berkett of Beverly Hills, CA; and Jan Chalepah of Kingsburg, CA to name a few.

She touched many lives and will be greatly missed by her family, friends and colleagues.

Kathleen was basically my Aunt and Connie Chapman, her mother was my Grandmother. She took care of me since I was a baby and treated me like a princess. There was always love, caring, food and a cozy bed at the house for me. There were times in my life where your house was the only “safe place” for our family as my parents were separating and divorcing. Truly there are people in this life that are angels that masquerade as people...Kathleen was one of them. I write this with tears streaming down my face. I am so thankful to God that you were in our lives. I will never forget the bowls of spaghetti you made me, playing in the sprinkler, going to the park, helping in the garden, going to mass with you and Connie and the trips from Missouri to California and Texas. You were pure love. Know that Nicole and Matthew have us forever as our sister and brother.

My wife Kathy and Kathleen were great friends before we met and were married. Kathleen and family came to Texas to visit us after Kathy shared the many rich stories they had together with their families at that time. Glad I could see the sweetness and goodness my Kathy spoke of for myself.

I am so thankful to have worked with this smart, beautiful colleague at Tom Williams ES. Kathleen's raidiant smile and joy filled my day when we had a few minutes to talk. She loved the kids so much! God bless family and her at this time. Angels on earth come in many forms. So sorry for your loss.
