Katrina Sharie Gillyard

Katrina Gillyard was born on Wednesday, November 26th, 1969, in Los Angeles, CA, to Willie Gillyard and Joyce James. During her childhood years, Trina loved to watch her mother sew, feed ducks at the pond, and play outside with her friends on 37th place.

She was educated in the Los Angeles school district, attending 37th Street Elementary, Foshay Middle School, and Dorsey High graduating with the class of 1987

In 2001, Katrina attended Contempo School of Beauty where she received her cosmetology license. For many years, she gained lifelong friends with the clients she serviced in all of Los Angeles and Las Vegas. April 9, 2011, Katrina received her certificate of completion for Administrative Medical Assistant at Milan Institute while still pursuing her cosmetology career. She worked at various hotels on the Las Vegas Strip doing housekeeping and always keeping hairdressing as a second source of income.

Following in her mother's footsteps, Trina loved to sew all kinds of things like clothing, blankets, dog clothes, pajamas, etc. Different and unique in everything she did, Trina had an artistic touch that helped turn her hobbies into income. From making beds for dogs to homemade dog treats, there wasn't anything she couldn't create.

To Katrina's surprise, Phelan crowned her grandma January 21, 2018, bringing her granddaughter Nylah into the world and shortly after her grandson Kartier on March 12, 2021. Trina's life eventually started to revolve around her grandchildren when she moved to be closer to Phe and the kids. She loved to take the kids to the park, swim, and even random trips to the Strip just to get them out of the house to sightsee. Being a part of their lives every single day, Katrina got the chance to grow close to her family as she spent her last peaceful moments on her sewing machine surrounded by her grandkids and family.

Katrina was preceded in death by her parents Willie Gillyard and Joyce James, and her sister Cena Walton.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children Phelan Perkins and D'mela Welcome, her grandchildren Nylah Pratt and Kartier Beltran, her significant other Rodrick Powell, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A visitation for Katrina will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Palm Downtown Mortuary, 1325 North Main St, Las Vegas, NV 89101, followed by a funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
