

Lance Elden Maxwell, age 67, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021. He was born in West Covina, California on October 4, 1954 to Duane Maxwell and La Rae Hammond. He was a graduate of Las Vegas High School in 1972, and attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). Lance was very active in sports throughout his life playing Baseball, Soccer and Football for Las Vegas High School, and Soccer for UNLV. He also played Soccer, Fast Pitch Softball and Softball for adult travel leagues in Las Vegas for many years. He also loved playing golf with his buddies.
Lance worked for United Parcel Service (UPS) and became an active member of Teamster’s Local #631. After 10 years with UPS he took a hiatus and started his own business called LanceScape Maintenance. It was a lawn maintenance and design Company. After 10 years in the business, he went back to the Union and began working his way up through the Convention business becoming a Lead and Foreman. Throughout his tenure with Teamsters, he and his wife purchased and ran a 7-Eleven Franchise for 13 years.
On October 27, 1979 Lance married his High School Sweetheart and the love of his life, Sonia, who worked for a local Advertising Agency called Cooper Burch & Howe. On March 18, 1983 they welcomed their first daughter and on January 23, 1987, they welcomed their second daughter. They became the most important part of his life.
Lance was a devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather. He enjoyed traveling and had two very special places that he loved. They were Hawaii and Colombia, his wife’s home Country.
Lance is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sonia, his two daughters Briana and Whitney Maxwell, his 5 grandchildren, Annabella, Madisyn, Ryder, Nicolle and Kylie. He is also survived by his Mother LaRae Hammond, Step Father Harold Hammond, his brothers Marshall and Thane Maxwell, and his Sister Durrae Laycock. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family and all who knew him for his infectious smile, his love for life and always being the life of the party.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for Saturday, December 11, at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church located at 1515 West Charleston Boulevard in the Chapel. Pastor Jim Houston-Hencken will officiate the service. A reception will be hosted immediately following the service at his home.
