Lilia Ortiz

Lilia “Amá” Ortiz came into the world in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The beloved youngest daughter of Pilar and Edmundo Cuevas. She was the favorite baby sister to her siblings Pepe, Lupe, Queta, Mundo and Jorge.

She earned a certificate in accounting and office procedures. At the tender age of 17, she crossed paths with her husband, Marco A. Ortiz, at her very first job and by age 18, they had tied the knot. She had 4 children, Ivan, Claudine, Christian and Diana, who were deeply loved by her. The family traveled often and had many adventures throughout Mexico.

When she was 33 years old she relocated to the United States, with her children, to join her husband and have a brighter future. She started working at a Spanish radio station/magazine, where her career as a graphic designer began. Lilia had always loved music and dancing and due to her new employment she was able to immerse herself in the world of music and arts. She attended many concerts and passed on her love of music to her children and grandchildren.

At 40 years old, the family relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada where she lived until her passing. She worked for a Spanish newspaper in Las Vegas for many years. She became a US citizen in 2002, one of her proudest accomplishments. She lovingly helped raise her 11 grandchildren, Alex, Andy, Roly, Natalie, Kevin, Brandon, Lexus, Ruby, Axel, Jazmine and Dream.

Lilia cherished her role as a mother, but her heart expanded with even greater joy as a grandmother, lovingly known as “Amá/Mamá Lilia.” She found joy in preparing meals for her children and grandchildren, and her unique recipes will be cherished and shared for generations to come. She also loved watching her grandchildren participate in extracurricular activities (soccer, football, track, drumline, choir, band, dance recitals and dance competitions).

Upon retiring, Lilia discovered a heartfelt new passion: couponing. She took great joy in discovering bargains and felt a deep sense of pride in her purchases, which she eagerly shared with the whole family. She also loved going to the gym every day to exercise and enjoy the sauna. She was often found sitting on her couch, wearing warm and cozy clothes and snuggling with a blanket as she would be cold even in warm weather. Her most favorite shows to watch were competition reality shows in Spanish, which she loved to discuss with others.

Her absence will be felt deeply, every moment, every hour, every day by all those who cherished and loved her. Her infectious laughter, her delightful humor and comforting hugs will always be remembered and missed.

Lilia is survived by her husband, adult children and their spouses, grandchildren, older brothers and sister and her many nieces and nephews.

The entire Ortiz family would like to thank everyone for their love and support through these difficult times. Your love and kindness does not go unnoticed.

A celebration of Lilia’s life will be held on Friday December 6, 2024 at 3 pm at the Palm Cheyenne Mortuary located at 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Las Vegas, NV 89129.

Lilia “Amá” Ortiz nació en Tampico, Tamaulipas, México. La querida hija menor de Pilar y Edmundo Cuevas. Era la hermana menor de sus hermanos Pepe, Lupe, Queta, Mundo y Jorge.

Obtuvo un certificado en contabilidad y procedimientos de oficina. A la edad de 17 años, en su primer trabajo, conoció a su esposo, Marco A. Ortiz, y a los 18 años se casó. Tuvo 4 hijos, Iván, Claudine, Christian y Diana, a quienes amaba profundamente. La familia viajó a menudo y vivió muchas aventuras por todo México.

Cuando tenía 33 años se mudó a los Estados Unidos, con sus hijos, para reunirse con su esposo y tener un futuro mejor. Comenzó a trabajar en una estación de radio/revista en español, donde comenzó su carrera como diseñadora gráfica. Lilia siempre había amado la música y el baile y gracias a su nuevo empleo, pudo sumergirse en el mundo de la música y las artes. Asistió a numerosos conciertos y heredó su amor por la música a sus hijos y nietos.

A sus 40 años, la familia se mudó a Las Vegas, Nevada, donde Lilia vivió hasta su fallecimiento. Ella trabajó durante muchos años para un periódico en español en Las Vegas. Se convirtió en ciudadana estadounidense en el 2002, uno de los logros de los que más se enorgullece. Ella ayudó a criar con mucho amor a sus 11 nietos, Alex, Andy, Roly, Natalie, Kevin, Brandon, Lexus, Ruby, Axel, Jazmine y Dream.

Lilia amaba su papel de madre, pero su corazón se expandió con una alegría aún mayor cuando tuvo nietos, conocida cariñosamente como “Amá/Mamá Lilia”. Le encantaba preparar comidas para sus hijos y nietos, y sus recetas deliciosas serán apreciadas y compartidas por generaciones por venir. También le encantaba ver a sus nietos participar en actividades extracurriculares (fútbol, fútbol americano, atletismo, batería, coro, banda, recitales de baile y competencias de baile).

Al jubilarse, Lilia descubrió una nueva pasión: los cupones. Ella sentía alegría al encontrar ofertas y sentía un profundo orgullo por sus compras, las cuales compartía con entusiasmo con toda la familia. También le encantaba ir al gimnasio todos los días para hacer ejercicio y disfrutar del sauna. A menudo se la encontraba sentada en su sofá, vestida con ropa cálida y acogedora y acurrucada con una cobija, ya que ella tenía frío incluso en un clima cálido. Sus programas favoritos para ver eran los reality shows de competencia en español, de los cuales le encantaba hablar con los demás.

Su ausencia será sentida profundamente, en cada momento, cada hora, cada día, por todos aquellos que la apreciaban y amaban. Su risa contagiosa, su sentido del humor y sus reconfortantes abrazos siempre serán recordados y extrañados.

A Lilia le sobreviven su esposo, sus hijos adultos y sus cónyuges, sus nietos, sus hermanos y hermana mayores y sus numerosos sobrinos y sobrinas.

Toda la familia Ortiz quisiera agradecer a todos por su amor y apoyo en estos momentos difíciles. Su amor y bondad no pasan desapercibidos.

Se llevará a cabo una celebración de la vida de Lilia el viernes 6 de diciembre de 2024 a las 3 p. m. en la Funeraria de Palm Cheyenne ubicada en 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Las Vegas, NV 89129.
