

Lionel Andre Henderson Sr., a beloved pillar of strength, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2024, at the age of 60 years old, at 8:50 PM Pacific Time, at Nathan Adelson Hospice at Mountain View Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, on March 26, 1963, Lionel was known for his unwavering dedication to excellence, even if it meant holding high standards that some found challenging. While his strict demeanor and perfectionist tendencies may have led some to misunderstand him, those who knew him understood that his intentions were always rooted in genuine care and a desire to see others succeed. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, William and Verline Henderson.
Lionel was a devoted father to his two sons, William and Lionel Jr., and his daughter, Lionesha. He also extended his care to his stepchildren, Paul and Cheyney, providing them with support whenever they needed it, even if they didn't always seek it.
Throughout his life, Lionel pursued knowledge and education, earning his BA, MA, and Ph.D. at Cheyney University. His passion for teaching led him to Montco, Penn State, UCLA, and San Diego State University, where he touched the lives of countless students. Lionel was not only a dedicated educator but also a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
In addition to his children, Lionel is survived by his brothers, Travis, Brian, and sister Romy. He adored his granddaughter, Sole' who brought immense joy to his life. Unfortunately, he did not have the honor of meeting his other granddaughter, Amiya.
Lionel's love for music was as vast as his heart, finding solace in the timeless melodies of Dean Martin, and the vibrant rhythms of Run DMC and DMX. He embraced diverse cultures and experiences, enriching the lives of those around him with his wisdom and kindness.
Lionel will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a loving father, heartfelt grandfather, supportive brother, esteemed professor, and dear friend. Though he may be physically absent, his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Daddy, Papa, Lionel, Bro, Professor, and friend. Your legacy of love and wisdom will forever illuminate our lives.
