Lorine Maxine Schaffer, 90, passed away peacefully July 15, 2015, in Las Vegas. She was born November 7, 1924, in Wood Township, Missouri, and lived in Southern California before moving to Las Vegas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Schaffer, in 1993, father and mother, Luther M. and Alice M. Hutsell, her sister, Audrie M. Henderson. She is survived by her three children, Donna Cochran, Vickie DeLullo, and Mark Schaffer, sisters Letha DeCrevecoeur, Bernice Winward, and Myrtle Gathings, one grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Maxine was unself-conscious to a fault and always said she never met a stranger she could not turn into a friend. She told jokes that were inappropriate to complete strangers, sometimes to her family’s complete embarrassment, always laughed and was extra kind to wait staff at the restaurants she enjoyed. She gave everyone kindness, stubbornness, bluntness, and empathy. She gave her children these things, as well as a love of music, good company, games, books, and much more. A hug was not optional when we were growing up nor was a sympathetic ear. She loved good food, dessert, card games, friends, and good jokes to tell and retell.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Palm Mortuary Downtown, 1325 North Main Street, Las Vegas, Nevada 89101. In lieu of flowers, please give a donation to a charity that is meaningful to you.
