Mary Elaine Karasik (DaQuino) passed away after a six-month battle with cancer, Jan. 22, 2013, her 43rd birthday. Mary never gave in to the cancer, fighting to the very end. Mary was born and raised in Las Vegas, where she graduated from St. Viator Elementary School (class of 1984) and Bishop Gorman High School (class of 1988). She moved to Reno to attend UNR, lived on the Hawaiian island of Maui for eight years, and had been a resident of Las Vegas since 2001, where she worked in an orthopedic office. It was in Maui that Mary discovered her profession in the medical field. Her friends know her as "nurse Mary" because of how she cared for everyone, and because of her powerful advocacy for the patients that she treated. She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Marietta DaQuino. She is survived by Dave Karasik and their daughter, Alexis Karasik; and her brothers, Philip DaQuino II and Larry DaQuino. Mary's beautiful smile and fun loving nature will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 8, at St. Joseph Husband of Mary Catholic Church, 7260 W. Sahara Ave., Las Vegas. Reception will follow.
