Mary Lee Paterson was born to Embry Paterson and Hannah Buie on October 1, 1931 in Fayette, Mississippi. At the age of eleven, Mary moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi, where she later married Velton J. Queen Sr. on May 14, 1951.
Mary traveled around the world with her husband as a military spouse for thirteen years before settling and making Las Vegas, Nevada their home. Mary was not only a loving mother, but also took on the role as a step mother to Robert L. Queen (Shirley M. Queen).
Mary worked two jobs to help support her family. This would include working at Nellis Air Force Base and working as a guest room attendant on the Las Vegas Strip. Mary later found permanent employment with Culinary Health & Welfare for over fifteen years, where she retired in 2004. After retirement, Mary took on the full time role as caregiver to her husband Velton J. Queen Sr.
Mary gave true meaning to the words, “I’m every woman”, by being a loyal wife, loving mother, awesome grandmother, beautifully dressed queen, Mary did it all. While doing all of the above, Mary joined The Golden Valley Apostolic Church under the leadership of Pastor Charles E. Gamble. This is where she accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. Mary continued her unwavering, dedicated faith as a Golden Valley member, which later transitioned into Mountain Top Faith Ministries; where she was one of the original members under the leadership of Clinton L. House. Mary continued to be a faithful servant in all of her responsibilities until her health began to fail her and the Lord took her home.
