Mary Tomaino, 51, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully with her husband, family, and close friends by her side on Sunday evening February 18, 2024 after a seven-month battle with cancer.
Mary was born on Clark Air Base in the Philippines in 1972. Her family moved to Las Vegas in 1981 when her father was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. She graduated from Eldorado High School in 1990. Married in 1991, she and her husband Chris moved briefly to the Bay Area in 1992 and then back again in 1993 when they settled permanently in Las Vegas to live their life and raise their family. Mary was a retail store manager until 2003 when the closure of the Spiegel store prompted her to decide to become a full-time mother to their young sons, something she craved as many Gen-Xer’s did after growing up as a ‘latchkey kid’. She then focused on home and family, mentoring their two young sons as well as their neighborhood friends as they navigated school, sports, and the other milestones of life. She made sure to instill strong values, morals, and principles in her family as well as leading by example by walking the path she espoused. Already a big hiker, during this period, Mary became an avid photographer, taking college classes in technical photography and picture composition and becoming very adept at every bit of the Canon camera collection that she amassed as she gained expertise. Team mom to several Pop Warner Football teams, she became a sports photographer for those same teams, editing videos for the teams and organizing the end of season banquets. She also became quite an expert in video editing, producing numerous videos for friends and family for retirements and special ceremonies, particularly within the circles of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, which her husband, brother-in-law and both of their sons ultimately became a part of.
Mary is survived by her husband of 32 years, Christopher Tomaino, and their two sons, Johnathan Tomaino (Celenne Miranda), and Gregory Tomaino; grandson Giovanni Tomaino-Miranda, granddaughter Emilia Tomaino-Miranda, her parents; Richard and Maria Ingram, her brother Richie Ingram, her sister, Cristina Ingram, her in-laws; Samuel and Deborah Tomaino, and her brother-in-law; Daniel Tomaino (Carrie Tomaino) along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Nathan Adelson Foundation.
