Born on May 23, 1943, in Lindsborg, Kansas, Melinda was known for her curiosity, intelligence, and impeccable sense of style. Always polished and poised, Melinda took pride in presenting herself with grace—her nails, hair, makeup, and wardrobe always perfectly put together. Fashion wasn’t just a hobby; it was a form of self-expression she embraced throughout her life.
Melinda shared a remarkable 54-year marriage with the love of her life, Robert Macy, who preceded her in passing. Their love story began when Melinda's mother, Robert’s high school music teacher, introduced them—a fateful connection that blossomed into a beautiful lifelong partnership.
Her life was rich with joy and filled with a deep love for family, friends, and community. She is survived by her sons Scott Macy, Todd Riggan and Family, and Brent (Martha) Macy; grandchildren Kara Macy and Savannah (Curtiss) Macy; and great-grandchildren Azlynn and Dean.
Melinda lived vibrantly and fully. A proud supporter of her Kansas roots, she was a lifelong fan of the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas City Chiefs. She brought that same passion into every facet of her life—whether hosting family gatherings, attending air shows with the International Council of Air Shows (ICAS), participating in events at the Sun City Summerlin community, or cheering at Super Bowl parties.
Her adventures took her from the islands of Hawaii to the glaciers of Alaska—one memorable cruise made possible by Siegfried & Roy, who also gifted her cherished keepsakes of plates, wine goblets, and plush white tigers. She loved Las Vegas, not only for the excitement of the city but for the chance to dress up and shine. She especially adored going out on the town and never passed up an opportunity to showcase her flair for fashion and name-brand style.
Melinda had a deep love for music, especially The Righteous Brothers, and a lifelong affection for Clydesdale horses—she even traveled to Warm Springs Ranch to visit them. Her devotion extended to her German Shepherds, who brought her comfort and companionship.
Raised in the Methodist faith, Melinda’s spirituality became an even more grounding force as she journeyed through life. Her husband Robert Macy was a proud alumnus and member of The University of Kansas Alumni Association, and she shared this interest with him. Melinda was also a woman of routine, kindness, and thoughtful organization—a legacy that lives on in those she touched.
