Pauline left Mississippi in 1955 and move to Chicago, Illinois following her sister, Tina. She later met a jolly-life loving man name George Douglas Hargraves. They were married that same year. To that union are four handsome boys and one beautiful girl.
Pauline was a go-getter and a very smart woman. She started her first business with only a high school education in April of 1971, as the owner of “Paula’s Palace” (bar). This is where she was known as “Ms. Paula”.
In 1975, Pauline and the family move to Las Vegas, NV. Again, following one of her older sisters, Ruby. She opened another bar with the same name – Paula’s Palace.
She was only the second, African American female to acquire a liquor license and own a bar. Over the years, it had several name changes: “Memory Lane”, “Chances Are” and now a church, “Progressive Community Church of God in Christ”, which is still in our family.
Pauline was born in the appropriate month of March and zodiac sign of Aries, which is the Fire Element/Sign. Aries are Bold, Outspoken, Motivated, Direct and Confident Leaders. All these adjectives described our 5’3” vivacious, firecracker mother!
Pauline was preceded in death by George, her husband, her parents, her four brothers and two sisters: Shadrach, Gabe, Ollie James, Richard Bouldin, Rose Fuller and Ruby Frieson.
Pauline leaves to cherish her legacy: her sons, Donald, Ronald, Terry and Wayne and daughter Diane; (like a son) Tarik Porter; sister Willie Mae “Tina” Crisler, brother Billy Ray Bouldin and sister-in-law Jolice Bouldin. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, and many other endearing relatives.
Mama, you will truly be missed but never forgotten! We love you so much!
