
Portia Powell, 81, of Las Vegas passed away on March 2, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. Portia was a 58 year resident of Las Vegas. She was born on Jan. 7, 1936 in Newark, NJ to the late Elmer and Monya Powell. Portia was a pioneer on the Las Vegas Strip, she worked at the Thunderbird, Stardust, Circus Circus, and Cesar’s Palace for over 58 years as the first female and youngest Chief Operator for the PBX telecommunications. Portia also was an ordained minister, and upon her ordination she founded the Center for Spiritual Growth in Las Vegas. She has also married countless couples at several Las Vegas wedding chapels. In her spare time Portia loved her arts and crafts, stamp and coin collecting, and spending time with family. Portia was crowned female over all quick-draw world champion in 1967. Portia was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Douglas Powell; great grandchild, Tayler Herrmann, and her beloved puppy, Precious. She is survived by her brother, Guy Powell; daughter, Victoria Leigh; son, Kevin Guy Fellowes; three grandchildren, Chrystal, Justin, and Nicole (Wes); five great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, god children, and friends.
