Queenie was born in Sunflower, Mississippi, on September 23, 1950. In 1954, her family relocated to Oakland, California, for her father’s work at General Motors. The family later settled in Milpitas, California, in 1964, where Queenie graduated from Samuel Ayer High School, Class of 1969. She spent several years working for the San Jose Mercury News as a Circulation Retention Specialist, where she met and later married her beloved husband, Donald Mobley, in 1980.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, David “DC” Chambers and Ruthie Mae Chambers; her loving brother, RJ Chambers; and her cherished sister, Barbara Ferguson.
Queenie is survived by her devoted husband, Donald Mobley; her loving sons, Tayadi Freeman and Michael Mobley; and her dear sisters, Ruby Striplin and Anne Vaughnbryant. She also leaves to cherish her memory loving aunts, uncles, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and treasured friends and acquaintances.
Queenie was a deeply loving, compassionate, and caring Christian woman who loved the Lord with all her heart. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age at First Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Oakland, California. She was the embodiment of the Proverbs 31 woman—graceful, wise, and faithful. A Certified Christian Counselor, Queenie was devoted to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. Whether leading Bible studies at church or in her home, she let her light shine wherever she went. Her love for God resonated in her words, in her joyful humming and singing, and through the gospel music that often filled her space.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:21
In addition to her spiritual devotion, Queenie had a vibrant love for R&B oldies and the dances of “back in the day.” For many years, she hosted or joined in “Sisters Night”—a weekend-long gathering filled with music, dancing, laughter, and stories. These joyful weekends celebrated sisterhood, life, and gratitude.
A self-taught seamstress with an impeccable sense of style, Queenie’s passion for fashion emerged early and led to a successful career with the world-renowned luxury house, Coco Chanel. As a celebrated Fashion Consultant for over two decades, she brought elegance and expertise to her work until her well-earned retirement.
In retirement, Queenie found joy in spending time with family and friends, cooking, reading, engaging in Bible study, and, of course, listening to music. She was a natural leader and encourager, known for her quick wit, warm spirit, and a smile that could brighten any room.
Her physical presence will be profoundly missed, but her spirit lives on—in stories, in music, in pictures, and in the many lives she touched with love and faith. Queenie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. Her life was a reflection of grace and passion, and her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Queenie, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a charitable organization of your choice in her name.
A celebration of life for Queenie will be held Friday, May 30, 2025 at 4:00 PM at Palm Northwest Mortuary, 6701 N Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89131.
