Quiana Treece Cheltenham Wilson was born March 5, 1976 to her loving parents Edgar Cheltenham and Sonya Young Cheltenham. She was her mother’s angel and the apple of her father’s eye. Quiana was born in Anaheim, California and in August of 1980 relocated with her family to the city of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Quiana attended Paul Culley Elementary School, Mabel Hoggard Sixth Grade Center, Brinley Junior High School, Cimmaron High School and The Meadows High School where she graduated June 4, 1994. Quiana was an outstanding athlete throughout Junior and Senior High School. She was selected to the All Conference Team in Basketball and Medaled in track and field. She also held the school record for the high jump. Upon graduation from high school Quiana went to Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. She returned home after two years of college and married Henry Mack. From that union she was blessed to give birth to two children, Ashlee Nicole Mack and Jordan James Mack.
Here in Las Vegas, Quiana was blessed with the gift of poetry, but the truth is, the world of poetry was blessed with the gift of Quiana. She had a smooth way with prose and verse and could portray even the most difficult situations with clarity and light. She had such a way of bringing honor to God through her poetry that she was called “the word spoken!” From the encouragement to women in the poem “Thick Chicks” to the hilariously funny prose of “Short Men,” she had a way with words that could bring techno color to the grey matter.
More than anything, Quiana adored her children Ashlee and Jordan. Their happiness was foremost in her mind. She was a loyal, faithful friend and most of her friends became her sisters and brothers. Quiana loved all shades of green, especially teal and her inquisitive taste gave her a unique love for Sushi, California rolls and lobster rolls. She was also notorious for saying her favorite phrases like, “For real, are you kidding me?” and her all-time number one saying “Are you serious?”
A wonderful young man, Barry Wilson first saw Quiana in 2008 and admired her from afar. They began dating later that year and fell in love in 2009. Overwhelmed by their passion and rapid growth of devotion for one another, they decided to become husband and wife and on January 26, 2010 they were married.
In 2009 Quiana was diagnosed with breast cancer. She became an advocate for Breast Cancer Awareness and is known for mantra inspired by her mother, “yesterday we cried, today we fight.” On one of her last days her sister-friend Yvonne asked her to pray. She prayed, “God make me an example for others who have to walk this way…” She and her family are indeed extraordinary examples of strength, courage, faith and class to anyone who has to “walk this way.”
Quiana was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Edgar and Doris Cheltenham, her maternal grandmother, Mother Minnie Young, her aunt Yvette Henry and uncle Freddie Cheltenham.
