Raymond Gary Rogers, “Gary,” passed away on October 24, 2020, at Nathan Adelson Hospice’s Mountain View Hospital location in Las Vegas, Nevada shortly after his 76th birthday. Gary was born in Henderson, Nevada to Raymond E. and Mary C. Rogers in September 1944. Although he was born in Henderson, in 1945, after his father was discharged from the Army, the family relocated to Muncie, Indiana, which is where Gary grew up. Gary’s family enjoyed traveling together across the United States to visit family and friends in New Mexico, Nevada, and Utah over the years. However, Gary returned to live in the Las Vegas area in 1989. Gary was a welder who took great pride in his work, and spent over 20 years working for Brandon Iron before retiring.
Gary loved science fiction and thought it would be great to travel into space. Star Trek was his avenue to this adventure. He could frequently be heard to say the famous Star Trek line of “Beam me up, Scotty,” and he enjoyed attending Star Trek conventions as well as collecting Star Trek memorabilia with his wife, Joyce. Gary also enjoyed watching wrestling matches, with his favorite being WWE. Gary loved to dance and won a trophy for his Waltz/Rumba routine. Gary met his wife Joyce dancing and were married in 1990. He also enjoyed bowling and Bunco.
Gary was a member of Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church, however, Palm Mortuary, at the South Jones location is handling all arrangements. No services are scheduled due to COVID. To honor his memory, the family is asking that donations be made to American Heart Association, American Diabetic Association, or Nathan Adelson Hospice.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Joyce, step-daughter Cynthia Cruz (Erick), and many cousins he loved and adored. Gary always enjoyed spending many hours talking and visiting with his family. Gary will be missed by all his friends and family. Rest in peace my love.
