

Richard Charles DeSantis, 85; beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away March 1 of complications from congestive heart failure. His family and Bishop Joseph Pepe were by his side. A 20 year resident of Las Vegas Richard became a part time then a full time resident when his daughter and son both moved to Las Vegas. He was a Builder and Developer who greatly influenced his architect son Louis DeSantis, architect son-law Paul Steelman, and granddaughter Suzanne who is an architect working in Chicago. Richard was a modern day “MacGyver”, there was nothing he could not build or fix. Richard was an avid golfer who enjoyed his many golf trips and all of his friends at Rolling Green Country Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania. However, it was his commitment to his faith, family and friends that were his greatest accomplishments.
Born November 21, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Louis and Clorinda (Faracchio) DeSantis. Richard graduated from South Philadelphia High School in Philadelphia in 1946. He served in the Navy from 1947 to 1948. When he returned from overseas he married his high school sweetheart Theresa Rowan. Richard started his construction and development career, first as a Carpenter (something that he was always very proud of) then a General Contractor and Developer. Richard constructed many homes and commercial buildings throughout the Delaware Valley and in Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Theresa, daughter Maryann Steelman (Paul), son Louis DeSantis (Patricia) and Four Grandchildren Jessica Sebbo (Scott) Diane DeSantis, Stephen Steelman and Suzanne Steelman. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Clorinda his brothers Vincent, Louis and his sister Marie Loney (Edward) and is survived by his brother Alfred. A Rosary and Vigil and Funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 8, at 11:00 a.m. at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish 1811 Pueblo Vista Dr. Las Vegas. The Rosary, Vigil and funeral Mass will be open to the public; however, the burial In Philadelphia will be private. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be to Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada.
