born August 13, 1958, to Robert and Lilija Berzins, in Point Pleasant, New Jersey.
He graduated from Brick Township High School in 1976. While in school, he became a disc jockey for the high school radio station WBGD 91.9. He had a “larger than life” personality, both on-air and off, and was loved by his fellow students. Music was in his blood. At a very young age, he learned to play the accordion, and would always listen to the records/albums that his siblings were blasting throughout the house. Later in life, Bob could be found in his “music room,” playing music, recording music, and making a variety of 8-track tapes, cassette tapes, and CD's. Bob attended college in New Jersey, and the Clark County Community College, in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he obtained the Degree of Associate in Applied Science, Business Management. He also finished a series of courses in music editing at a recording school in Ohio - - which several of his Las Vegas radio cohorts, “dubbed” him the nickname of “Blades Bob” - - because of his incredible editing skills.
He moved to Las Vegas in 1977, and held several positions before finally settling in at KMJJ 1140 AM, where he worked as a board operator and was eventually promoted to Operations Manager, in his final years of broadcasting. He ran the nation's first AM Hard Rock/Heavy Metal radio station KRSR 1140 – “The Krusher” (1987-1989); after the end of “The Krusher” era, Bob continued to work for the station until 1996 as Program Director. In 2013, he was inducted into the Nevada Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.
In 1980, he met the love of his life, Lynn Charisse Duffin, and were married in 1983. Together, they loved to travel all over the country and made cruises to the Hawaiian Islands, the Western Caribbean, and the Mediterranean. They particularly loved their “road trips,” which took them to various parts of Canada, and practically all of the 50 states of America. They also traveled to his ancestral homeland of Latvia. But, over the years, Bob suffered many illnesses, and passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Romans Grinfelds, and his step-brother Gunar Grinfelds.
He is survived by his loving wife Lynn, his brother Peter Berzins (Sharry) of New Jersey, his sister Livia Berzins Britton (Ray) of Las Vegas, Nevada; his nephews Brett (Christina) Berzins, Bryan (Kevin) Berzins, Godson - Erik (Lauren) Epling and Jason (Whitney) Epling; his grand-nieces Isabella, Presley, Sutton, Haddlynn, and Brayla; his grand-nephew Everett; his cousin David Berzins of New Jersey; a very loving mother-in-law, Sharon Duffin; and countless friends. In addition, he leaves behind dear relatives in his parents' homeland of Latvia, including his Goddaughter Dace. Bob will be honored with a celebration of his life in Las Vegas, which will be held sometime in August.
