

Robert’s Obituary Robert Clark Handcox was born to the late Mr. Ceaser and Mrs. Rosa Lee Handcox on 30 October 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. Robert was baptized Roman Catholic and attended St. Elizabeth Grammar and High School in Chicago, Illinois. In 1959, Robert departed his parents, and siblings in Chicago to join with some 700 other young men as Cadets at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. Robert successfully completed his studies and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1963. Upon graduation from West Point, Robert attended and completed Ranger School at Fort Benning, GA. From there, he went on to flight school at Ft. Rucker, AL, where he was designated a fixed wing and helicopter pilot. His Military service took him over the next decades to assignments in the Southeast United States, Southeast Asia, Washington DC, the Continent of Africa, and back to the U.S. Military academy and retirement at the rank of Colonel. During those military service years, he completed law school as a graduate of the National Law Center and in 1973 changed his military Branch of Service from Infantry to The Judge Advocate General’s Corp. In that latter branch, he served as Pentagon Legal Intern, as Trial Counsel (Prosecutor), Deputy Staff Judge Advocate at Summary, Special and General Court-Martial jurisdictions levels, completing Active Duty as Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Law, U.S. Military Academy in 1988. Following a brief stint in the private Civil Law sector, his focus changed to Service in Roman Catholic Ministry on a full-time basis, an advocation he pursued to the day he passed away. Robert departed this life on 9 September 2016. Robert was one of seven siblings. He leaves to cherish his memories, two sisters, Mrs. Eunice Brown and Arnell Wyatt of Denver, CO and one brother and his wife, Caesar and Evelyn Handcox of Las Vegas, NV, a host of nieces, nephews, and their families. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Ceasar and Rosa Lee Handcox, two sisters, Mrs. Deloris Grier and Mrs. Ruth Washington, one brother, Odell Handcox.
