

Robert Matthew Metler, 92, left his earthly journey on Monday, February 13, 2023. He was born May 15, 1930 in Chicago, IL to Cecilia Rosella Draffkorn and Matthew Cashmere Metler. Bob served his country during the Korean War and for 8 years at Nellis Air Force Base where he met his sweetheart and eternal companion, Patsy Kay Leavitt.
Bob worked as a deputy sheriff in Las Vegas for 7 years and was a fireman at the Nevada Test Site for 22 years. He also owned his own carpet and drapery business during those 22 years.
Bob was known for his quick wit and gift of storytelling. He was always willing to help whenever he was needed and generous in helping those in need. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Surviving are his loving wife of 70 years, his sons Robert(Phyllis) of Tulsa, Ryan(Valerie) and daughters Pam Simkins(Jim) of Tucson and Stephanie Smith(Jared) and 14 grandchildren, Heather Riddle, Jim Simkins, Josh Simkins, Hayley Simkins, Jake Simkins, Jared Simkins, Ashley Metler, Shelby Evans, Robert Metler, Cheyenne Bechyne, Jasmine Smith, Caitlyn Smith, Ethan Smith and Luke Brinkerhoff. He had 16 great grandchildren with one great grandson, Samuel Robert Simkins, preceding him in death.
A viewing will be held Monday, February 27, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a funeral service following from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 8755 Iron Mountain Road, Las Vegas, NV 89101. Burial with military rites will be Tuesday, February 28 from 9:20 AM to 10:00 AM at the Southern Nevada Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran’s Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
