Robin was born on March 8, 1959, in New York, New York and raised in The Lower Eastside. She was baptized at Trinity Church and went on to graduate from Washington Irving High School. Following in her mother's footsteps, Robin discovered early on that music was woven into her very soul. Known affectionately as "Rockin Robin", she possessed a beautiful voice that stopped people in their tracks. As a teenager, she was a proud member of the All City Choir, performing solos at some of New York City's most celebrated venues including Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center.
Growing up, Robin was a lifeguard who loved launching herself off the highest diving board, fearless in the air before slicing into the water below. She loved dancing the night away in New York City’s night clubs especially with her lifelong friend Patrice Parris. She loved laughing, flashing her radiant smile, and batting her large brown eyes with an effortless charm that was entirely her own. An unbridled spirit and natural social butterfly, Robin had the rare gift of making friends with absolutely anyone. She was caring, loving, sassy, silly, spicy, witty and had a vivacious spirit. Once you crossed her path, she left an impression you simply could not shake.
With her gift for conversation and an instinct for connection, Robin found her calling in the hospitality industry. She took a leap of faith first planting roots in California, then ultimately settling in Las Vegas. Her sales career began at the Inn on 57th Street in New York and culminated as a Senior Sales Manager with MGM Resorts in Las Vegas, where her charm, tenacity, and deal-making instincts made her a force to be reckoned with. She consistently exceeded revenue goals, earned countless awards and bonuses. She had a remarkable talent for turning longtime clients into friends and coworkers became family.
Robin lived life to the fullest. She loved going to live shows and concerts especially with her daughter, Ebony. She enjoyed Zumba classes, singing, dancing, and spending time with her friends. She also had a special talent for creating one-of-a-kind, hilarious TikTok videos under the name Ms. Moka.
Robin's greatest and most treasured accomplishment was her daughter, Ebony. She loved her with every fiber of her being completely, unconditionally, and without reservation. Robin built a full and comfortable life for Ebony entirely on her own terms. She was immensely proud of the young woman Ebony became, and she leaves behind a legacy of beautiful memories to be cherished forever.
Robin was preceded in death by her mother, Joybelle Duarte Chong; her father, John Edward Walker; her sister, Williebee Darden; and her brother, Johnny Walker. Those left to celebrate her legacy are her daughter, Ebony Pullen; her brothers, Robert Duarte Sr. and Martin Walker; her sister, Jeanine Walker; her nephew, Robert Duarte Jr.; her niece, Raevan Henderson; and a host of treasured nieces, cousins, and friends.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the deep love, compassion, support and unwavering friendship shown by Jenny Hurley, Johnny Arispe, Leslie McFadden, and so many others who walked alongside Robin.
Remember her chuckle. Remember her laugh. Remember her JOY.
"Perhaps that is not a star in the sky, but rather an opening where our loved one shines down to let us know they are happy."
LET THE LIGHT OF MOKA SHINE IN YOUR EYES FOREVER.
