Mr. Chatman was a man of honor and integrity. It is because of him that I was able to attend college outside of Las Vegas. I later had the the privilege to work as a teacher at Eldorado High along side Roland.

So sorry to learn of Chat's passing.  We worked together at Eldorado HS, I really got to know him when I moved from the classroom to the Counseling Office.  He always made me laugh when he asked his students "What do you want to be when you grow up?" and if the reply wasn't right, or the student did not want to go to college, he would say "You need to learn this line.  Do you want fries with that?"  Implying that their future ended with a job in fast food.   We had many a good laugh, and many stressful days in the Counseling Office at EHS.  I've thought of him often since retirement.  Chat:  you were a positive influence on many, and will be missed by all who knew you.  RIP, old friend.     Carol Wagers

Uncle Chat always brought a smile to our faces when he entered the room.  He is truly missed.  Cousins, please know that my prayers are with you.  May God send some measure of comfort during this truly difficult time.

Coach Chatman- Thank you for everything you did for us, both on the basketball court and off of the basketball court.  I always respected you and adored you.  You were always there to support us, even at the softball games.  You made me feel really special when you told me you had 'scouted' me at the middle school basketball games and you busted my chops when I took a year off of basketball to work instead, telling me that I will have the rest of my life to work.  And you were right.  You were always a strong mentor and coach and had good advice and I am grateful for you.  You even came to see me at the hospital, after I graduated, when I got in an accident.  You were my little sister's counselor about 7 years later and you helped her too. You were a good man and you will not be forgotten.  Thank you Coach Chatman.

Roland was my coworker, friend, fellow counselor, and mentor at Eldorado H.S. I met Roland in 1999 when I was fresh out of graduate school and a new counselor to CCSD and Nevada.  We faced many frustrating and challenging situations together. He taught me to stay calm, to talk slowly, and to persevere during emotionally charged times. I have many memories of Roland and spent many hours in his office and I could talk fondly about him for days. He often had a way of lightening the mood and making me laugh when I was about to cry. He put things into perspective in a truly unique way. I am grateful for having worked with him for seven years. He was a phenomenal person and I will never forget him. He had a significant impact on my life and he will be missed.

We had many good memories of Coach!  Please accept my deepest heartfelt token of sympathy.  Coach Chatman touched many lives and he is profoundly missed.

Chat, you always had the ability to positively influence the lives of those you touched.  We could see that when you were a young man.  You had the knack of making one smile and "come out of their shell". To paraphrase and answer Kipling's "If", you have shown that you can "walk with crowds and keep your virtue or walk with men of stature and not lose the common touch".

We go back 50 plus years and have come in & out of each others lives (usually when crises or trying times arise).  Please know that you will be thought of and missed by all who knew you.  To take a quote from Richard Bach, "Don't be dismayed at good byes.  A farewell is necessary before you can meet again.  And meeting again is certain after moments or a lifetime for those who are friends.

Our family will most certainly keep your family & loved ones lifted up in prayer.  Our condolences go out to all of you.

P. S. Chat, I can imagine you looking down on all the love shown for you and in between the smiles your hefty laugh.  "Sleep on Dear Chat and take your rest, we all love you but God loves you best".

I will never forgot Coach Chatman. He was a wonderful coach and counselor to me throughout high school. I was even privileged to have him attend my wedding. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.

There was never a situation that Chat couldn't lighten with laughter; never a frown thet he couldn't change to a smile. Gone from Detroit since the 70's yet my memories are as vivid as yesterday: I continue to smile.
A good man evidenced by the fruit of his labor never dies for his good works will continue through the lives of those he touched, loved, and nurtured.
Take your well earned rest, my brother for your real life, your new life, is just beginning.

I thank God for allowing me to meet Coach and have him in my life. Surely was a blessing to be around him. He will not b forgotten. RIP sucka :(

Heaven has gained a most valuable player.  He will be missed dearly.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Chat---- I was blessed to know this man for the majority of my life.  Being a lttle girl and him giving me candy, to my high school counselor, to a mentor as I went through college, to a colleague and most importantly my friend.  I was blessed to have you Chat in my life.  I will miss your smile, and your wit.  You will be truly missed by so many but know now you are pain free.  May you Rest In Peace my friend.  The Chatman family is in my thoughts, your father, grandfather was a wonderful man who touched the lives of many.

Coach Chatman, I will always remember you with that great big smile! Thank you for always encouraging us to do our best and give our all in everything, including swimming, academics, and life. You had a big impact on my life and on many, many others' as well, and we will carry on the valuable lessons you taught us. You will be greatly missed, but I will see you again one day in heaven!

   I am so sorry for the loss of your father. Though I only knew your father briefly I will always remember him as a warm man with a gentle yet commanding presence. I'm sure I will think of him every time I hear some good old soul music and I will smile.

Chat, you were always a ray of sunshine in my life.  "Hey, kid, what's up?"  I'm so glad I got to talk with you one last time in June after your birthday.  You were such a fighter who always wanted to make things better in this world serving as a role model for so many kids. And your personal story continues to touch my heart.  I will never forget you! You were such a good friend.  No more black cats...only spotted cats!

Chat:  For more than 50 years our families have shared the happy (and sometimes trying) times in our lives.  Even now we can't think of you and the rest of â€œthe gangâ€ without recalling a story that brings a smile.  You will be missed.  Although you are no longer physically present, you will always be in our memories, our hearts and our prayers.  Our sincere condolences to Roland, Jr., Raimie, Njemile, and the rest of your beloved family.

I've known Chat for many years.  He has always been a true and caring friend.  I miss hearing his voice and seeing him at our front door for a visit.
