Roscoe Conkling Lockridge was born September 17, 1918 to the late LeeRoy Lockridge and Demover Gregory Lockridge in Waxahachie, Texas. His early childhood education was received in Waco, Texas, however, due to his Father’s ministry he completed High School at Booker T. Washington H.S. in Dallas, Texas.
In his adulthood, Roscoe served in the United States Army during WWII as a Staff Sergeant in the European Theater located in India. He was honorably discharged in 1945. While in the Army, he received training as a shoe repairman which is what he did after being discharged. Later, he became a Skycap, where he retired from Delta Airlines in 1987.
Roscoe joined Church at a young age in Waco, Texas. He served under his father Rev. L.R. Lockridge as Junior Deacon at Golden Gate Baptist Church in 1937. He later joined Calvary Baptist Church in San Diego, CA under the ministry of his brother, Rev. Dr. S.M. Lockridge. Upon his arrival to Las Vegas, Nevada, Roscoe joined Second Baptist Church and attended as a member under various ministers including Rev. Willie Davis and Dr. D, Edward Chaney until he was called home.
Roscoe took great pride in his appearance and made sure that he looked good in his clothes. When he stepped out of the house he modeled his clothes with confidence because he knew he looked good! He was a person of joy, bringing laughter and love to all that he met. To the world he was only one person, but to many he meant the world.
Roscoe gently and peacefully was called home on December 18, 2014 surrounded by family. He leaves to celebrate his legacy his loving wife of forty years, Barbara Ann Lockridge of Las Vegas, NV; Two Sisters: Willa Faye Whitman (Edward) and Dorothy Watson of Dallas, TX; Four daughters: Roscoe Virginia Gore (Alan) and Marianne Lockridge of Chula Vista, CA; Blanche Patricia Lockridge of Murrieta, CA; Neva Lockridge of Vallejo, CA.
