Rosie Mary Ollie was born December 30, 1951 in Shreveport, Louisiana to James and Elsie Lester. She was the youngest child of seven born to this union. Rosie accepted Christ at the early age of 8 years old at Greater Elizabeth Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. Rosie attended George Washington Carver in Caddo Parish, Louisiana before relocating to Los Angeles, California. After relocating to Los Angeles, she united with Greater new Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Joseph E. Martin. Rosie’s formal education at Thomas Jefferson High School, where she played softball, was a part of student council and graduated in 1969. Soon after she started her higher education journey at Santa Monica College where she studied Business Administration.
My Man, My Man, My Man.... young, gifted, black and crazy in Love she married her high school sweetheart Amos Ollie in 1969- to this union they had a beautiful baby girl and named her Cassandra Linette Ollie in 1971. As a young wife and mother Rosie made sure she worked, she didn't play about her family, her business or her money. After a few years she started working for The Broadway (Now known as Macy’s). Rosie took pride in everything she did and worked hard and diligently for over 20 years and eventually became a floor supervisor.
Rosie was an active member of her church, Greater New Morning Star B.C. serving in any capacity needed, she sang with the General Choir and Mass Choir for many years as a tenor. She was a true prayer warrior and believed in taking everything to the Lord in prayer. She was involved with the Eastern Stars. She was a member of the Celestial Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Stars, Queen Elizabeth Court 1and Daughter of Sphinx of California Crescent Court 1. In 1988, after being told she wouldn’t be able to have anymore children, God blessed her on July 7, 1988 with her son Christopher James Jackson.
In 1994 after a self-exam (which she strongly believed all women should do). She noticed a lump and was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Not only did she Survive this battle she Thrived, becoming an advocate for Breast Cancer Awareness. She became a support system for many women who had to face that same battle. Being a 30 year Thriver she contributed her strength to God, as she would always say “If God brings you to it, he will bring you through it”. That same year Rosie decided to resign from The Broadway and focus on her health and wellbeing. Having a love for children and knowing she still had work to do she decided to work with Special Need children working at Westwood Charter, the children brighten her life and gave her great joy.
Rosie was a woman of many talents and stayed Booked and Busy by selling Princess House Crystal, hosting many Cologne parties for vendors, selling Avon and becoming one of the Top 15 sellers in Los Angeles. In 2001 after careful consideration and self-reflection she decided to retire from LAUSD and focus on herself and her family.
Rosie loved hard and her family was her pride and joy. Serving as a committee member organizing family reunions. Anyone who had the pleasure of tasting any of Rosie’s cooking knew she could throw down in the kitchen. Rosie perfected many dishes and desserts, knowing good food can bring people together.
October 2003, Rosie relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada to start a new chapter in her life and be closer to her brother L.D. Lester. She fellowshipped with Mountain Top Faith Ministry but to her Greater New Morning Star B.C was always home and her church.
Rosie had a blessed and well lived life traveling, hosting parties, BUNCO parties, Bid Whist Tournaments, shopping, drawing and painting.
Rosie transitioned from Labor to Reward with both of her children by her side holding her hands on December 28, 2024.
Rosie’s parents preceded her in death James and Elsie Lester, sister Dorothy Zettie Williams, brothers Clarence James Lester, Harold Lester, Issac Walter Lester, L.D. Lester and her goddaughter Jaia Monique Louis.
Rosie leaves to cherish her loving memory: Her daughter Cassandra L. Ollie, her son Christopher J. Jackson, two beautiful granddaughters Keanna L. Yancy and DeJane’ L. Walker, one handsome grandson Jeremiah O. Walters, two sisters Delories Lester (Las Vegas, NV), Irene Luster Grey, one brother Albert Luster (Vanessa), two sisters-in-law Graciella Lester and Ruby Lester, six nieces- Janie Williams, LaSonja Lester, LaVon Lester, Treshone Lester, Tara Lester, Sharmeia Lester, five nephews- Harvey Williams, Darryl Lester, Alphonso Lester (Sonja), Dion Lester (Katina), Darold Lester, goddaughter-Asia Rose Lester, a host of great nieces and great nephews, sister/cousin- Janet Craig, sister/friends- Linda Davis, Alice Wiley, Darlene Tracy, Velma Jones, Delma Criss, Tina Greenwood, Della Davis, Brenda Butts and a host of other relatives and friends.
