Scott Waters Stevens, beloved husband, stepfather, and grandfather, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on January 16, 2025, in Las Vegas, NV. He departed this world with grace and dignity, leaving a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering strength. He was the second of three children, born on September 2, 1954, to Reverend Charles and Martha Stevens in Peoria, Illinois. They were a loving and very close-knit family.
Scott attended Center Senior High School in Kansas City, Missouri and Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. He had always excelled in his academics as he continuously made the Dean’s List, was chosen as the school mascot, and participated in ROTC. One of his greatest achievements as a young man was that he earned his Private Pilot’s license at the age of 16. He always had a servant’s heart and enjoyed volunteering for the USO, the Prison Ministry, and was an active Las Vegas Aloha Lions Club member too.
Lt. Colonel Stevens was commissioned in 1977 as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and then attained the rank of Lt. Colonel, honorably serving our country for 35 years with the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Air National Guard, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Border Protection. He also served as the National Guard Bureau Senior Liaison at California's Air and Marine Operations Center, was on the 9/11 Battle Staff, and was in charge of securing the air space at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
Any aspect of aviation not only brought him immense joy, but of course, always a great game of golf too! Among his treasured memories were annual trips to Hawaii to visit family and friends and time well spent with business friends and mentors in TLA. Scott met Arlene, the love of his life, on the beautiful island of Kauai. They were married for 31 years. He was a devoted husband and stepdad to Justin (Eriko) Oda and Nathan (Andrea) Oda, and a wonderful step-grandfather to Alora and Eliya. He is survived by his younger brother Matthew (Melinda), his nephews, Chad, Mitch, and John, and his nieces, Taylor and Jennifer.
Scott will be remembered for his professional achievements, but most of all, for his kindness, generosity and wonderful sense of humor. We take comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the memories we share and by his example of serving and loving his Lord and Savior. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Liberty Institute at https://firstliberty.org/.
