Shawn F. Hackman, 56, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away unexpectedly on November 19, 2025. Born on December 9, 1968, in Mason City, Iowa, Shawn was the beloved son of Roger and Glenda Hackman and the brother of Tonia and Dawn. He was loved by his family and friends and will be remembered for his love of sports, sense of humor, and kind heart.
Shawn grew up in Osage, Iowa, and graduated from Osage High School in 1987. During his years in the Osage Community Schools, he was often seen and heard from the sidelines of football, basketball, and baseball games. Even after graduating, he frequently, weather permitting, went back to Osage for games to cheer on the Green Devils. A proud fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Shawn never missed a chance to cheer them on, and we know he’ll continue to do so.
He graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in 1994 and moved to Las Vegas the following year. After practicing as an attorney, Shawn transitioned into business consulting, where he continued to leverage his legal expertise to assist in the formation of businesses. Throughout his career, his sharp mind and unwavering dedication to helping others were evident.
Shawn touched countless lives with his generosity, quick wit, and infectious laughter, leaving behind memories that will be cherished forever. He had a gift for making every moment brighter—whether through his legendary gag gifts for nieces and nephews or the jokes that kept friends laughing for hours. Holidays were always extra special with Shawn around, filled with fun, laughter, and the kind of joy only he could bring.
He is survived by his parents, Roger and Glenda Hackman of Marshalltown, Iowa; his siblings, Tonia (Dave) Petrie of Pahrump, Nevada, and Dawn (David) McKinley Richmond of Schaumburg, Illinois; and his nieces and nephews, Makalea and Hayden Petrie and Kate and Cole McKinley. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Mathilda Hackman, and Glen and Virginia Blietz.
A celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2026 in Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions to these two organizations that were close to Shawn’s heart: University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital online at Ways to Give to Stead Family Children’s Hospital Fund or mailed to University of Iowa Center for Advancement, ℅ Stead Family Children’s Hospital Fund, P.O. Box 4550, Iowa City, IA 52244-4550 or Osage Community Schools online at Osage Education Foundation or mailed to Osage Education Foundation, P.O. Box 82, Osage, IA 50461. On the memo line or on a note attached, please indicate "Gift in memory of Shawn Hackman."
We are grateful for your thoughts, prayers, and support during this difficult time. We will forever carry Shawn’s laughter and love in our hearts.
