We celebrate the life of Stanley Cheng Leo, 86, who passed away on Wednesday December 21, 2016 at the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. He had just returned from a 2-week cruise to the Panama Canal. Born January 11, 1930 in Taichung, Taiwan, he was the second son of the late Chiang Suei Liao and Ah-Mai (Lai) Liao.
After receiving his college degree, he worked at the naval exchange in Taipei where he met his bride (and joy). Leaving his family in 1965, he travelled alone to the United States to build a better life. He settled in New York City, brought his family to start a life together in a little apartment in the Bronx two years later, and worked tirelessly to help others immigrate to America to achieve their dreams. He was so proud to be an American citizen and changed his last name to “Leo” to make it easier for others to pronounce. Aside from working in sales at Nissho Iwai Corporation in Manhattan, he later owned Chinese restaurants in New York and then Baltimore.
In retirement he enjoyed maintaining long-term friendships, eating fried foods and buffets, Taiwanese politics, traveling, cruising, playing slot machines, WWE wrestling, and entertaining guests.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Grace; 3 children, Julie (Alan) Sassler, Nelsen (Anna) Leo, and Bensen (Mariley) Leo; 7 grandchildren, Kimberly and Zachary Sassler, JT Leo, Sarah Greteman-Leo, Charis, Corben and Carter Leo. His siblings both passed and alive include Schue-Su Liao, Schue-Yuan Liao, Benedict Liao, Shue-Tsai, Sue-Len Cheng, Sue-Hsin Tung and Susan Nieng.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave, Las Vegas, Nevada. The funeral will be officiated by pastor friend Will Hsu of Cypress, CA in the chapel at the same location on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 10:00 am with a burial ceremony to follow at Bunker’s Memory Gardens Memorial Park 7251 W. Lone Mountain Rd. In lieu of flowers, visits may be made to Grace Leo’s home when you are in town.
