I knew of Stephen through Rhonda at NPA.  I was so impressed with the closeness  and mutual respect your family had for each other.  Rhonda had a big impact on my life and appreciation of music and philosophy.  I think of you often.

I was just talking with my sister Janet in the Philippines and she mentioned about the children of Dr. William Cavin when they were stationed in Cubi Point Naval Hospital. I assumed this is the same family because all the childrens name matched. Our condolence and prayers to the family.

I have been trying to wait and think of the perfect words to say about Steve that will communicate my great sense of his family's loss and pain, yet share my true knowing that he is still with those he loved and who loved him. But my words fail me. 
I cannot say how much he influenced my life, through his loving sister (and cohort in crime) who gave me insights to music and books and, well, just life. Steve's body is now at peace, but I believe his soul-- his marvelous, quirky, amazing soul-- is with those who loved him, now and forever.

Was so sorry to hear of Stephen's passing. Time went so quickly. I will always remember Stephen as the smartest little kid I ever knew. My trip as a teenage babysitter to the Tulsa Zoo with him is still one of my top stories. Never pass a Zoo or an American Bison, not a buffalo!! (lots of them here in ND), without picturing Stephen. Still can't pronounce all the dinosaur names much less know which is which. I know your family will miss him very much. So sorry we didn't get to meet up with him again in these later years but my picture will always be of the 6 year old scholar who taught me things I never forgot. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Love to all from the ND relatives.

To Rhonda, Marvin and all the Cavins, our family is praying for peace for each of you in this most difficult time. I heard about Steve often from Rhonda, who adored him.  I can't imagine the gaping hole you have right now in your lives. We pray that fond memories and great friends and family can assist in the healing of that hole that can only happen over the passage of time.  Our sincere sympathies
