Stephen Philip Hall was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on October 2nd, 1950, to Pauline Ellen Goodman Hall and Ernest Austin Hall, Jr. He was the first of three children and the only boy. He grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, attended Wager High School and later, Murray State University.
After college, Steve started out as a jack of all trades, holding jobs like a line cook at the Soup Chef, a whitewater rafting guide, a photography assistant, and delivering Jeeps to Alaska, among many others. His first love, however, was the theatre.
Steve spent some time acting in local productions and as a stagehand in dinner theatre. Eventually, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he found a home at the Tropicana Hotel working as a stagehand for the Folies Bergere where he earned the nickname "Buffalo" or "Buff" due to his signature long hair and shaggy beard. After retiring from the Trop, he became a part of the Encore Productions family as a CAD designer. He eventually retired from Encore in 2016.
Retirement never stopped Steve. He used his time to travel to bluegrass festivals, learned to play the dobro, read extensively, spent time with his family, and smoked thousands of cigars. He loved poetry, all things Irish and college basketball.
Steve peacefully passed from this life on March 6, 2026. He is preceded in death by both parents and his baby sister, Jennifer Lynn "J.J." Hall. He is survived by his sister Melinda Simpkins and her husband David as well as his aunt Catherine Sommers, his uncle Charles "Red' Schroering and numerous cousins.
