

Theda Grace “Kitty” Edwards, a Coronado resident for over 40 years, passed away peacefully in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 77 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Kitty was born June 2, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating from high school Kitty moved to Washington, DC in 1956 and started working for the FBI as a secretary. It was during her time in DC that Kitty went on a blind date and fell in love with a handsome Navy sailor. They were married from 1958 to 1978, during which time Kitty took on the life of a Navy wife. Part of their travels included a move to Nevada, where her son Harold William Edwards Jr. was born, and in England, where her daughter Cheryl Lynn Edwards was born; the family finally settled in San Diego in 1968 and called Coronado their home. Kitty worked on North Island as a secretary and attended night school where she received her degree in computer programming. She advanced through the ranks working at North Island as a security computer systems programmer. Kitty was passionate about her work and had an incredible work ethic. She enjoyed spending time away from work with her co-workers in a variety of activities. Kitty retired after an honorable 30-year civil service career. After retiring, Kitty generously volunteered her time for the Madres Youth Baseball, the Coronado Hospital, fostering animals from the San Diego Humane Society, and the San Diego Aerospace Museum. She also enjoyed attending Padres games as a season ticket holder, jewelry making, genealogy, and traveling abroad with her friends. Kitty is survived by her son Harold William (“Bill”) Edwards, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, and his wife Denise; her daughter Cheryl Edwards Williams, and her husband Rob stationed in Yokosuka, Japan; grandchildren include William Jared Edwards, Renee Marie Cartelli, Danielle Nicole Cartelli, and Spencer Jack Williams; great-grand children Sophia Marie Edwards, Mark Louis Barbieri, and Andrew Philip Lugris. Kitty loved life, lived it to its fullest, and did it on her terms. Her pride and joy was in her children, family, and close friends.
