AVIS DE DÉCÈS
1 juin 1940 – 20 juin 2020
Thomas Raymond Reingruber, 80, passed away with his family surrounding him on June 20, 2020, at the Veteran’s Hospital in North Las Vegas. He was born in Hartford, WI on June 1, 1940 to parents Verna (née Gehl) and Wilfrid Reingruber.
He was the fifth of six children and grew up above his family’s tavern in St. Lawrence, WI. Tom graduated in 1959 from Slinger High School and joined the Air Force in 1964. He was honorably discharged in 1968, then moved to Las Vegas to join his family and there he met Carolyn Thayne.
They were married November 8,1968 and had three daughters, Joni, Melissa and Holly Rae. Tom earned a business degree from UNLV while raising his daughters and working at the Nevada Test Site and then Nevada Power. Tom’s passion was investing in raw land, and he spent 45 years driving back and forth from Las Vegas to the northern deserts of Arizona purchasing parcels to help others achieve their dream of owning land.
He is survived by his ex-wife Carolyn, daughters Joni (Mark) Yandric, Melissa (Russell) Killgo and Holly (Ryan) Ornelas, and his sister Rosemary. Also grandsons Parker, Tyler, Holden, Liam and Harrison. He is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Wilfrid, Robert, Charles, and Richard.
Tom was the most optimistic person any of us knew. He will be remembered for his mentorship to family and countless friends, his generosity, his gift for numbers and his many aphorisms...“Good, better, best; Never let it rest, ’til the good is better and the better is best!”
Our family would like to thank the very kind and compassionate nurses of the Veteran’s hospital--especially considering the limits due to the COVID pandemic.
In lieu of flowers, our family would appreciate donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

I always enjoyed chatting with Tom about the past, current and future events in our life. He would broaden my view in life with his theories around energy and sometimes shorten my views with politics. :-)
When talking about the past (BC) I would have to question myself when he would state that the "They were so far advanced than where we are today".
When talking about the future of his grandchildren we would create futuristic theories "Imagine what it will be like for Holden and Liam when..."

My Papa was my best friend and he will be missed so much. He was a teacher to me as well as a mentor. I learned so much from him about every topic you could think about, from clouds to why power lines rotate after a while. When I turned 15 he started taking me driving around the neighborhood we’d drive around for an hour or so every day and talk about anything and everything. When my history AP test was approaching he’d quiz me with flash cards as I drove around. When I passed my test for my permit I was so excited to go driving with him and of course he took me to the airport during rush hour which I will never forget. When I passed my Eagle Scout board of review I drove straight to his house in my uniform to show him because I knew he’d be so proud and proud he was! I will always remember our trips to Arizona and the stories you’d tell us and how you’d fall asleep mid conversation and then wake up talking where you left off. I will always know how important it is to be an investor before anything else. I will always remember the lessons you’ve taught me and the memories we shared I love you so much papa!
Good better best never let it rest till the good is better and the better is best

Dad, I am not sure how to sum up my years in knowing and loving you. Growing up, I remember you being loving, a lot of fun, and always trying to teach me something. As I got older, you never failed to help when I needed you and always reminded me how proud you were of me. Your belief in me is what helped me to believe in myself when it came time to do any hard thing-- and I still draw strength from that. (Good, Better, Best...). You really were such a great dad!
Family was so important to you. Thank you for the family you created; I cherish my sisters so much. I wish you were still here to see us all succeed and grow.
Me and my boys miss you, Papa Tom! I love you so.

I’ll always remember Tom as “The Worlds Most Optimistic Man.” No matter the situation he always saw the bright side and truly enjoyed others success. I will miss our road trips to Arizona talking about money and politics. In Toms final days he told me on multiple occasions to take care of his girls, Carolyn, Joni, Melissa , Holly and his five grandsons. He said the only thing that matters is family. I was blessed to call Tom my Father-In-Law and best friend.

Papa had an infinite amount of stories that always started with,”I probably told you this one.” And most of the times he had already told the story but it didn’t make it any less interesting. My favorite memories with Papa were on the car rides to and from Arizona when I got to hear his stories.

I’m so grateful to be your daughter. Thank you for being such an amazing father, father in law and grandpa. I love and miss you so much. This has been much more difficult then I could ever imagine...just heart broken and missing you so much. I hope that you’re busy preparing our mansion above. So thankful that families are forever and that I’m apart of your eternal family! Thank you for always taking such great care of us and for always making us feel loved and special. Until we meet again dad. I love and miss you so much!! ❤️

My earliest memory of Uncle Tommy was showing up at our house for the holidays from the Air Force saying he parachuted in. Uncle Tom started helping me and encouraging me with money for my good grades on my report cards. My first job and my career at the power company were thanks to his help. Always helping with great nuggets of advice, ideas, and wisdom. True Uncle, Dad, Boss, Coach, Advisor, Mentor. Simply the best.

My memories of Tom are abundant . All of them filled with laughter. I will always recall our favorite trip to Havasu. The Thanksgiving when I was cleaning up and looked over to see you and both Heather &Tony sound asleep on the couch. The many Seinfeld episodes we watched together . The time you had surgery and showed up at our door with a stocking cap on Heather thought you were a mugger!
Tony wants to say thanks for the many life lessons on goal setting you taught him.
I will miss your smile and how U doing on the other end of the phone.
Rest in peace ,I love you.

My uncle was a great man. I loved him dearly. He was like a Father to me. He always helped a soul in need no matter who they were, lovingly and with words of wisdom to help you on your journey.
He said my dad taught him a lot. But, didn’t implement his knowledge, Tom did. I moved from Ohio with my daughter Sarah and uncle let us stay in his spare room 3 months to get on my feet, He took my daughter to Disney Land, He walked me down the isle because my Dad was in a wheel chair, He taught me how to build a website which helped me with my career.
I thank you Uncle Tom! See you on the other-side, your loving Niece Cherlyn

I worked for the Mohave County Trasurers office for 19 years. In those years I had the great opportunity to work with Tom. He was always a breath of fresh air. He would come into the office all the time and ask how his girls were doing. He would give us money for our coffee fund. He will missed dearly RIP Mr. Reingruber.

I met Mr. Reingruber when I started working at the Mohave County Treasurer's Office in 1989. He loved to travel and when he went to Hawaii he sent by US mail to our Delinquent Tax Department a Coconut with postage stamped to the outside. Through the years we would pass it on to the last person in our Department who was Brenda. He was always cheerful and brought us snacks. He was a very generous and caring individual and I am so honored to have met him.
