Vince graduated in 1973 from Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix and later attended University of Arizona (Tucson) and Arizona State University (Tempe) to earn a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. In 1979, he met Julie Anne Gilday in a university marketing class. In 1987, Vince began his journey with Alcoholics Anonymous, marking the start of 38.5 years of sobriety. He was deeply committed to the program, served as an inspiration to many in the recovery community, and often sponsored as many as ten individuals at a time.
Vince and Julie welcomed their sons Alec Mackenzie Shaffer in 1991 and Blake Austin Shaffer in 1993. He was an active parent, coaching youth sports and participating in school and extracurricular activities. The family enjoyed traveling together, with memorable trips to London, Germany, New York, San Francisco, La Jolla, and a favorite destination, The Sea Ranch on the Northern California coast.
He loved art, design, reading, golf, pickleball, skiing, and long walks, often with their dogs, Diego and Angus.
Vince is survived by his wife, Julie; his son Alec and daughter-in-law Nikki; his son Blake and daughter-in-law Mandy; and his beloved pups.
