Virginia “Ginny” Hannum was born in Sheridan, Wyoming to Mark and Edith Badgett on June 22, 1933. She graduated from Sheridan High School. Ginny married Philip “Phil” Hannum on September 4, 1960 at the Baptist Church in Sheridan. She had two sons with Phil, P. Mark Hannum, born in Sheridan, Wyoming, and Daniel Hannum born in Boulder, Colorado
Her first job was assisting her mother who took in laundry. Virginia’s main assignment was to do the ironing. She went on to work at the local photography shop and studio. It was there that she met her future husband Phil when he came in to purchase a camera and have film developed.
She briefly moved to Bozeman, Montana while her husband was attending college there. She then gave birth to her first son, P. Mark in Sheridan, Wyoming. Ginny later moved with her husband to Boulder, Colorado where Daniel was born.
Ginny then assisted her self-employed husband with various construction projects. They later moved to Lakewood, Colorado where she raised her children. For a short time she was co-owner and operator with her husband of a classic ice cream shop in Denver, Colorado. She then went on to work as a sales associate at a retail department store in Lakewood, Colorado where she worked until her retirement. After her husband’s retirement Virginia and her husband would split their time between Colorado in the summers and Las Vegas in the winters where her son, Dan, and his wife, Debbie, lived.
Early in life she joined family members in service work through the Eastern Star. After her retirement Ginny served as a volunteer in many capacities at Crosswinds Community Church, the church her son Daniel and his wife Debbie planted and continue to pastor in Las Vegas, Nevada. Due to her warm, inviting, friendly, and outgoing personality she especially excelled in her role as a church greeter. Many people shared through the years that they returned after a first visit because of, and continued to look forward to her affectionate greeting, as they entered the church.
Ginny’s passions in life were her children and cooking. She especially excelled at baking and was known for her many sweet treats. Her homemade angel food cake continued to be in high demand by family and friends alike until she was no longer physically able to stand.
